215hp 4tec oil in '08 (confused!)

I've got a 2009 GTI (obviously not s/c). My 10 hour service is upon me. I had planned on using Mobil 1 as I use it for everything else but I decided to wait until my 1 year warranty is up. After it is up however, will I be ok to use 5w-30 synthetic Mobil 1?
It would be better to use a 5W40 full sny. I use it in my 07 GTI

Great posts guys. Does the issue with dealers not using mineral oil, and now use synthetic blend, also mean Australian dealers?

It depends on the year model. The older Rotax 4-TEC motors could use synthetic. The supercharged motors could not because of the ceramic slip washers coming apart, causing damage from a lack of oil because oil ports would get stopped up. The synthetic oil is too slippery for the clutched superchargers.

They have since stopped using that set up and using a steel washer. I read an article last season that said they are now using mineral oil.

I see you have an 08 model 215 hp. I use synthetic oil in all my 90 model 787cc motors. But, if I owned the newer, supercharged 4-TEC, I think I'd stay with regular mineral oil.

My 2009 180SE 255HP with SC manual says not to use synthetic. My dealer at 10 HR warranty check and oil change put in blended synthetic. When I questioned it, they said blended is OK. Also when trying to find the mineral BRP type by PN it doesn't seem to exist anymore.
I expect I am OK, however I don't have ceramic washers in my 2009 unit. It would be nice to see a comprehensive statement from BRP on this. I do trust my dealer as they are a major Seadoo & Yamaha dealer in these parts, however it would be nice if the manual would provide the correct story.
