Helo everyone, first time poster here, pretty new to the forums as I just purchased my SeaDoo a few months ago.

Getting to the point, on my GTS I ride it pretty 'hard' I like doing sharp turns and spins it is a weird thing to describe. Nothing I would consider bad for the machine. I noticed my last time out when doing a turn or spin the engine seemed kind of bogged when coming out of the standstill. Perhaps more vibration or just a boggy noise instead of a highpitch winding like it normally does. I have sucked one thing in the impeller months ago but ran fine until recently. Top speed was always 55 and it will still do 54 so not a huge issue. When looking at the wear ring it seems pretty scuffed compared to some I have seen. The ski already has about 50 hours on it, was serviced at 10 by dealer after sucking some rope up and they said everything was good to go. I only have a few days of riding left until I store for winter.

Check out the impeller and wear ring and let me know if anything looks damaged or if I should be riding it or if it can wait until stored to be worked on? Thanks in advance!

Also, I noticed the dealer has the coolant a good inch or two above the max line, is this necessary? Should I remove some of the coolant and how so?

Hi, and welcome to the Seadoo forum.

The wear ring looks fine to me, just normal scuffs, not even close to replacement, you can check the clearance between the impeller and wear ring with a feeler gauge, it should be no more than .040". If you are experiencing cavitation I don't think this is the source.

What would be possible causes of cavitation then? A new term to me, but it seems that the impeller and the wear ring are common issues? For a new ski I dont know what else could be wrong with fluids up to par and no codes.

If you have lost 1 mph I'm not sure that you have a problem, 1 mph could just be speedometer error, wind conditions, lake conditions. If you are concerned the ski is under warranty, take it to the dealer.

I'm no expert, but it sounds to me like the "bogging down" is just the ski taking off again from a stand still after doing a spin and changing direction and the highpitched winding you were hearing before was more likely cavitation caused by the "spin" and more weight being forward on the ski (arse of the ski out of the water or atlease only partially submerged).
Cavitation is basically alot of air being dragged through the impeller along with the water, impellers spin faster in air that water due to less drag so you engine would increase speed alot faster, thus giving you a highpitched scream.

I hate to disagree with everyone here but...the perspective in the pics don't allow for a good view of the gap. Scratches are normal wear issues...but the gap should measure no more than .014.

Yes, I agree, and not being an expert on 4-tecs I was most likely wrong about the impeller to wear ring clearance, so go with the .014" clearance. You may need to remove the steering nozzle to measure the gap.

BTW, I'm still not convinced that you actually have a problem.

Cavitation can happen without "sucking Air". If you have the right conditions, the velocity of each blade will create gas bubbles, which can be enough to cause an amount of cavitation.
