Hello, I just finished the engine break in on my 2015 GTR 215 and noticed that when I am around 20-25 MPH, the ski will rock back and forth. Has anyone else had this problem. It's a side to side rocking and only at those speeds. Thanks for any input.

Sounds like something is loose and oscillating at about that speed.... have you checked all the control linkages to make certain they're firmly connected?

note: Bolts with self-locking nuts on the pump controls (steering, OPAS paddle linkages if so equipped, reverse bucket, trim, etc.) should by backed-off about 1/4 turn from tight so as not to bind the control.

Try speeding up. You may not be fully on plane. My RXT's do the same thing.

My '06 RXT is the same as yours and has never had such a problem during that transition speed just before getting onto plane. Even when it was all original it didn't rock any at any speed.

Even with 2 adults and a teenager on it, it has never rocked any. I'm of the opinion there is something wrong to cause this rocking motion.

When I first had my ski (new) I immediately noticed the same issue around 23-26 mph. After extensive research I learned that is was referred to a "crip walk." The way Seadoo designed the hulls on the GT model 2012's and up causes this side to side motion at low speed. If you accelerate past the noted speed the motion will immediately stop. Just the way the ski was designed.

I think the term is is chine walk. I've experienced that on several models, my gpr did it around 18-20, consistently.

my RXT just did it to me last Sunday at around 15, as I was slowing down heading into a no wake zone.

Some will say its a good thing, it means the hull is trying to lift itself out of the water, its asking you for more power, like a racehorse,,, the ski wants to run.

it seemed to happen when the front of the hull where it went from the V to the flatter part was hitting the water just right.... The V will catch the water and just as it starts to pull the flatter part will catch and it settles back, then repeats.

bumping the trim down a bar or two sometimes does the trick, by raising or lowering the front of the hull you can usually manipulate the walk, but for me, it was just a reminder that I was going too slow, throttle always solved the problem. I would literally blip the throttle up a couple mph and it disappeared.

If you tend to speed up or slow down rather rapidly, you may never experience this once on your ski, so if I brap up from 5mph to 40 in a a couple seconds, nothing, but if I'm puttering about at that low rpm range i'll experience it.

Oddly enough more throttle solved my porpoising issues as well, I'm beginning to think that more rpm's is the solution to all of lifes problems !

To be a little more clear....
Mine will not rock back and forth so much as ride listing/tilted to one side or the other at lower speeds around what is stated above. I originally tried to move my weight from side to side and ski will just tilt over to the heavy side.
At real low speed they tend to swerve back and forth. More like riding in a "S" pattern if you will. I have also seen ski boats that would do this same thing.
These are both characteristics I could perceive someone would call rocking.

I would agree with the others. I think you are on the "bubble" kind of thing. Generally speaking, the more weight on the ski the higher the speed before you will lift onto plane if accelerating slowly.

Most skis stop this around 20 mph ish with a single rider of around 175 pounds or so.

Thanks for all the responses. It was when I had three people on it--didn't try it when it was just me. I will check to make sure everything is tightened and keep an eye on it. I appreciate all the feedback. I'm new to PWCs and was kind of worrying.

That answers the issue. 3 on the ski it would wobble big time. Just needed a bit more speed to get the stern up on top of the water. Once you are on top, you can actually slow down a bit if you need to and still be on plane..

Depending on the 3 people, you may be overloading the SeaDoo. There is an overall weight limit, 3 large adults may exceed it. That's why I said mine was fine with 2 adults and 1 teenager (and all 3 of us were fit, hwp). Mostly I ride single though and I've never experienced any problems with the RXT hull rocking or listing to 1 side it's rock solid at all speeds in my experience.

If you're new to PWC's, you really shouldn't be taking passengers with you for a while IMO. Learn the machine yourself 1st. Get used to pulling up to docks safely, etc. And seriously, check your machine's weight limit and then do the math in your head when you have passengers wanting to go for a ride! If you're pushing the weight limit, it's going to feel real "sloppy" before it fully planes (and it'll take more rpm's before it will plane) and you should NOT be exceeding the weight limit! The more weight on top, the higher the center of gravity so the greater tendency to roll over or list to 1 side.

Have fun, be safe though!

I have exact the same symptom with my GTR.
Have 30 hours on it and have experienced it maybe 3-4 times and only when riding solo.

Overall happy with the GTR but Traded the ski for this till next season.
