Does anyone have any recommendations on aftermarket impellers for a twin 260hp Challenger? I believe the pitch is different for port and starboard engines. Also, any opinion on the factory wear rings or to recommend going to stainless? Pros and cons?
Thanks,
Pretex

Hey Pretex,

Don’t have info on impellers, just curious with the 520, what are you hoping to get by changing?

Regarding the rings. I stick with oem for the wear rings. Decision on stainless depends on where you boat, how’s the water? Lots of debris etc. are you going thru wear rings right now? If yes and you switch you’re likely going to wear out impeller instead. ~Rick

Just prepping to do some work at end of the season to the boat. I get some cavitation on the Starboard engine if I really stick the throttle, have to back off a little then it stops. I suspect either the impeller and or wear ring. Yes, we get lots of debris lately in our lake, they keep releasing water upstream which brings a lot of bark, logs, etc.. I have also seen some wear rings from the Impeller store that aren't plastic, but their composite version. Thoughts?

So couple things, just my thoughts, Honestly I’d steer clear of the cheapos, I took a shot and ordered a couple from different place and they were out of round and not even the same sizes.

Keep in mind if you’re in a water with a lot of debris you have to think something is gonna wear down. If you go with oem type wear ring, it’ll be the thing to wear out. If you go heavy duty or stainless something else has to give, ie impeller.

I’m in heavy debris water on river, I just changed my rings, got 4 years out of them. One other thing is to do pump maintenance. New bearings etc. the combo for me puts you back in the seat when I throttle up. Didn’t notice any cavitation, that I had last season, while towing with a full boat last Sunday.
