I am new to the forum and look forward to getting to know everyone. I am also new to owning a PWC. I purchased a 2008 GTI SE 130 with 115 hours last week. The engine compartment is supper clean, almost like new condition. I was on the water yesterday and had taken a break in the middle of the lake. Then I went to start the ski back up it would turn over but not start. Then it would turn over and stop turning after about 3 seconds. Finally I got it started and headed back to shore and then home. Got home and had the same issue. It would beep quickly two times as it should and then would turn over for 3 seconds or so and then just go dead. Once I got it running again, it would beep one long beep which last about 2 seconds. This would happen about every 20 seconds as it ran.

I took my meter to the battery and it read 12.4v, the battery is newer. I noticed the contacts that you contact to the battery have a green color to them and a little white. I then took my meter and tested what reading I was getting on the contacts and it read less than 1v.

Is there a way I should clean the contracts? Should I use the grease that I purchase from the automotive store and apply to my car battery terminals? Any ideas or suggestions would be very much appreciated, thank you!

John

Clean the terminals thoroughly and retest. If it does the same thing replace the battery. These batteries only last 2-3 years.

Its a newer battery replaced by the former owner but it may just be a cheap battery. The terminals on the battery are in like new condition. The contacts that are connected to the wires to the ski are somewhat discolored. Should I clean them like in a car, with a wire brush? Also, should I use terminal grease? At this point they are dry? Thank you for your response and sorry for the additional ignorant questions, just not sure if PWC contracts should be treated any differently then an automobile. Thanks again!

Nope, treated the same or better since it'll be around water more often. That dielectric grease is the ticket. a lil vinegar and an old tooth brush gets the corrosion offa the contacts.

Thank you for the answers. Since the battery that was in the ski when I purchased it did not have any information on it regarding starting amps and it also did not indicate this information after looking up the specs online, I decided to try a new battery. The battery I purchased has 325 cold crank amps. This has solved my problem, thanks again for every ones time.
