Hello. I am a noob with skis. I live in Fiji where options are very limited. I have been offered a 2007 non SC RXT with 700 hours on it. It is owned by someone who is clearly fanatical about maintaining his toys so it looks like new, goes like new. It has always been covered and floatered or trailered etc. etc. So my question is, if it has been well looked after is it worth considering or is it simply too many hours and is likely to cause me grief. Appreciate any advice from more experienced people.

Thanks Benji. Price is not so much an issue in Fiji. It is very hard to find any ski to buy. This one is much cheaper than importing one. My main concern is whether I am likely to have issues. In trolling forums there seems to be much debate over the life of an engine.

People say that a Sea-Doo 4-tec is pretty worn out after 600 hours (and 1000 hours for Yamaha). Hard to say but 700 hours is a lot. If however it still looks new (like not dents or cracks on the hull), it means that the owner took great care of it. A few things you could look for:

- How clean the inside of the hull is?
- Do you see corrosion on the engine (saltwater)?
- Check the keel under the ski, is it still painted or does it look granular (no more paint and not smooth)? This will tell you if this ski was beached to many times.

I assume that you could water test it or at least see it running in water.

But at 700 hours I would be careful.

Benji.

Get me a round trip flight and I’ll come inspect it before you buy it for free.

GTX maybe? RXT only came supercharged. 700hrs isn't end of world on perfectly maintained but it sure opens the doors for issues compared to low hours.
