I'm looking at a 2006 GTX. The guy says that the seal on the rear of the hull needs to be changed and that it will cost $400 to replace. Question how hard is it to change myself?

Thanks

Gonna have to ask him what the hell he's talkin about.

Ask him to be a tad bit more specific...ie..."what seal?"

The way he explained it, it's the seal where the out drive bolts to the hull. He says it takes on water through this. Also he was told to replace it you have to pull the motor or pull the whole outside section off?
I'm not really familiar with PWCs so I'm not sure.
I did find a neoprene seal on a parts site for the pump?

I can pull the pump and reassemble in less than an hour. That pump seal shouldn't cost and arm and a leg.

What you're discribing is an easy fix. The question now should be...how did that seal fail? Because they aren't known to just...go bad.

Uhhm...he's sure this where he's taking on water? Never heard of that...bet it's the carbon seal.

Is the carbon seal red? I looked at it and he pointed to where he was told he leak is. If you are looking at the out drive, that's what I'm calling it as I don't know the correct term, there is a small opening in the out drive on the top and to the left, there is something red in there and he says that is the seal.

The thing runs fine, ok condition cosmetically just faded because he doesn't have a cover, maybe needs the seat recovered, I think I can get it for around $3500, but don't want to put in too much money when I can buy a mint machine for $6000 around here.

The carbon seal is where the drive shaft enters the Hull.

The "outdrive" is the pump. Not sure what you are discribing being top left of the pump. Pics?

Sure way to find the leak is to trailer it to the water and without unfastening the trailer remove seat and look...or...just fill Hull with some water and see if you can see where water leaks outs the Hull.

Pics of the "seal area" would be best.
