2006 GTX Pump Question

Last season my wear ring needed replaced on my 2006 GTX. I had it replaced and it solved my problem. Now it started to do the same thing at the end of the season (loss of power, cavitation out of the hole, etc.) My question: Could there be another problem causing the wear ring to prematurely wear out? I haven't pulled the pump off and I have not done this before. Is it hard to do? It doesn't seem to hard from the YouTube videos I have watched.

Any help is appreciated! I am starting to get spring fever!

Look for debris in the impeller area. A small twig or line can cause serious cavitation.

If it is failing quickly, your engine may be out of alignment. Check the motor mounts.

My motor mounts seem very rubbery and deformed. They seem to have sagged down some. I'm not home, so I can't post pics, but is that normal for 4tecs? My 2-stroke mounts seems like they're made of harder rubber...

they are pretty stiff normally.
see if the engine wiggles...

i've mentioned this before but the last 3 4tec seadoo's (gtx/gtx/rxt) all had at least one if not both bad rear motor mounts, no issues with the fronts.

I have a very clean set of used low hour mounts if your interested, I paid $30 for the pair off ebay a few weeks back, was going to put them in my rxt and then decided on rhass instead and these have been sitting on the shelf, i've been too lazy to re-list them.

Define "bad". These seemed to work just fine in the 03 GTX they came out of before I took the sawzall to it. They just feel a bit soft. I am installing the engine in my custom boat and have shims to get it just right in there. I guess try to wiggle it and see how much it moves? How much is "too much"?

I think they may be okay, looking at the picture of the ones on ebay, even the new WSMs look like they have a sag to them. That's what I'm really wondering, is that SAG normal?

Bad as in mishapen, I should have taken pic's of the bad ones, they looked like someone had heated them up and hit em' with a 3# hammer.

here's a pic of a clean one, no sag, and stiff as hell.

I took my ski to a seadoo mechanic in the area and he told me I am eating wear rings because my 2006 GTX 155 STD has a plastic pump housing and it is flexing. I am having it sent out to Skat-Trak to have a stainless wear ring (to beef it up) machined in and honed to match a R series impeller.

The issue with a Stainless Wear Ring is, they destroy other things when there is an issue as they are much stronger than a traditional wear ring. They are good until there is an issue, and then the issue is normally compounded..

Understood Coastie Joe, I have seen both pros and cons and understand I am taking a chance. I will keep everyone posted as I hit the water in a couple of months.

I thought by 2006 they had gone to the metal pump housing because of that problem. I know my 02 GTX has a plastic pump but pretty sure they changed them a year or two later. No?

If yours is plastic though wouldn't upgrading the pump to a metal one be a better option? I have seen used ones on Ebay relatively cheap.

Mine also cavitates under full throttle out of the hole until it gets up on plane. I changed out the wear ring two seasons ago and no change what so ever. Had the carbon seal replaced over the winter and hoping that cures it but haven't been able to get out on the water yet.

I believe the N/A GTX 155 (mine) and the GTI still had the plastic pump. It was an option to get the metal housing, but I thought I would try this.
