Hello everyone,
I have been looking to buy a Seadoo. I really like the RXT but im not crazy about all the bads things im reading about the SC. The one i was thinking about looking at has 87 hrs on it and was told its looks showroom and runs like a top. Any way to see if the SC is about to go? or if its been worked on? I will be asking him if the washers have been changed but thats about all i can do. Any advise would be great.

Are you from Green hulk by any chance?

Anyway... I never trust the last owner. If the ski is clean, and runs well... and the price is right... then buy it, and plan on changing the washers to tool steel. Now, if he says that they haven't been changed... then you can use that as leverage tool to help bring the price down.

The rumors about the washers are true. They are supposed to go to 100 Hr's, but they have been known to blow apart as early as 20hr's. AND, when they fail, they can take the engine with it. (Stupid design)

The tool steel washers are your solution. You can run the piss out of them, and eventually, they will just start to slip, but they will not have a catastrophic failure.

The supercharger itself is reliable. The say it needs a full rebuild every 100 hr's, but it will go a long time if the washers don't fail, and let the shaft unload.

Good luck with your choice, and let us know what you decide.

Thanks for the reply. No on the GH. This is my first watercraft purchase. I have used others but never had my own. Im deciding between the 05 RXT and a 04 GTX 4tec SC. I read up on both and dont see anything bad about the GTX as far as the SC but the RXT made me wonder. I was wondering if there was a way if you know that the washers have already broke. Would it run like crap or make a noise? and is the SC on the gtx different or would that have the same issue?

Thanks again
Dan

Anything with a S/C in it, (gtx, rxt, rxp, Wake) has the same ceramic washers in them up to the year 2007. Unless they had it serviced and upgraded to steel. In 2008 they changed to the steel washers from the factory. So in your case the gtx you are looking at will have the same concerns. The only thing you might notice in performance is the ski wont have that get-up and-go. When the steel washers get olod they slip which doesnt allow the S/C to fully wind up.

Thanks for the info,
Decided to get the RXT since they both had the same SC. Got the SC kit with the SS washers.
