2005 RXT Fuel Pump?????

SeaDoo runs great for a few minutes then will only idle. If I let it sit for about 10 minutes, it will run great for about another 2-3 minutes before it goes back to idle again. Dealer says fuel pump, but wants $680 plus labor to change. So, I ordered fuel pump rebuild kit from Jet Ski's Plus. All going good except not sure how to get bottom of fuel pump assembly off without drilling rivots. Do I need to take bottomr off to get filters back in place? Does this even sound like my problem (fuel Pump)???? Not sure it is even the fuel pump, but there were no codes and dealer said I was losing fuel pressure.

the one thing I would have done was,,, had an in-line fuel pressure gauge installed. Rode the ski until the issue became present. Then,,, looked at the gauge to see what the reading was. If your dealer didn't do this or is just "guessing",,, you may want to look elsewhere..
 
Okay, Just installed new pump. Jet Ski is low on fuel, but won't turn over. Does anyone know if this is the way the jet skis work? Won't crank if low on fuel. I put about a gallon in it, but it was almost empty. Funny thing is, It was almost full when I brought it the first place...

No,, low fuel will NOT stop it from cranking...

Can you hear the Starter Solenoid kicking in when you press the START Button?
 
I cannot hear anything but the fuel pump bringing the pressure up. It seems like it may be the switch. I can jump it by the solenoid and it will crank. The switch will also kill the motor, but not engage the starter. Is that a start switch????

At the solenoid you will find a trigger wire (I think it is pink or has a pink stripe). With the lanyard in place and pressing the START button, what is the voltage reading at this trigger wire?
 
There are no wires exposed. Top, middle and bottom are the three wires coming into solenoid all look to be red. Should I use probe to stick through wire cover?
 
Rephrase that. There are 4 wires the top wire (Closest to the seat) has one large wire with two smaller wires "y"ing into it. The bottom is another large wire.

I need to clarify. There is a plug that comes into the side of the solenoid? Mine is purple and yellow. Same as the start switch. I tested it with the key on. One side has 12volts and the other will not show any volts. Tested with light. Is this the wire that you are referring or do you mean the 4 wires coming off the solenoid (two heavy wires from battery to starter and two small extras)? Do you need to know the voltage?
 
Sorry, went out for dinner....

Unplug the plug and using a meter, is there any DC Volts when put the test leads into to the plug (lanyard on).
Now press the START button, any voltage then?

No problem. I did the same. I will have to check this tomorrow. I did check it with a light tester. I had voltage to one side of the switch only and only with lanyard attached. The other side never changed, but I think it may be ground anyway. I did not test it for ground, but will tomorrow. I ordered a Solenoid for Thursday delivery. Figure it's only $15 and I will need it some time or another. My next suspicion will be the switch itself. Updates tomorrow.

Is one of the small wires on the plug a ground or does it ground by the base? Getting kids to school and will give you voltages in a little while.

I have 12 volts on one side and nothing on other with key on. Nothing on either side with key off. No change when I push start with key on or off. I do however hear the fuel pump that i just replaced kick on every time I push the start/stop button. The start/stop button will also kill the engine when it cranked yesterday by jumping across the solenoid.

I believe it needs to pick the ground side up when the button is pushed. I need to look at the wire schematics.

For now I would test the START button using ohms. Unplug it
To test it. Should show open when not pushed and almost no resistance when it is pushed.

Okay, Update. It was the solenoid. I just put the new one on and walla. Cranks right up. Okay, now, I just need it to run right after I changed the fuel pump. Updates to come. Thanks CostieJoe. I didn't have to test the switch as I installed the Solenoid and fixed it. No Clicking, just no turn over and fuel pump would hum each time I hit the start/stop key.
 
Well, took ski out today. Ran great for about 30 minutes. Then all of the sudden it died. Cranked right back up and ran fine for little while then died again. Started heading towards dock and it seemed to get worse as I got closer. It did big at times and I was able to keep it running, but list of the time it died and unwed irately would reveal. Any ideas?
Just changed fuel pump, filters, solenoid. No alarms or anything.

Unplug the rectifier and see if the issue goes away.
 
Coastie, I'm sure what that is, but will figure that part out. Do you want me to disconnect then take ski out for a ride or on trailer? Inherited this ski from my mom. It sat for years, but has been taken care of other than that. That's why all the issues. It only has 128 hrs. Thanks so much. My three kids are dying to go riding, but I've got to make it reliable first.

The rectifier is what controls the DC voltage to the system and and battery. They fail in a few different ways. One being, it created A/C voltage. When this happens, it screws with the MPEM as it does no t iike A/C voltatge. The best test is to unplug it and go for a ride. Keep in mind, while unplugged it will NOT be charging the battery. But you can ride for plenty of distance just on the battery.

Picking back up from last summer. Took ski out today and still running fine for about 15-20 minutes then dies and will immediately start back (even while still coming off plane). Any ideas? Coastie said might be Rectifier. Does this sound right? Hoping Coastie still around.
