2005 GTX Wake - Will not exceed 35mph

Hi guys...here is my first post and given this is my first PWC be kind...lol. Looks like I found the right place for advice on my new Sea-doo! Thanks in advance!

I bought a used GTX 155 Wake this past winter and just now got it its the water. It starts up fine and runs smooth but maxes out at 35 mph, around 5000 rpm...I am thinking it might be the key is a learning key (I only have one key, it's not labeled learning)...I had it out for a few minutes this weekend and it did occasionally try yo go faster when fully engaged but only for a second or two then it throttled back...ideas?

Nice looking ski! Welcome btw, your local service provider can test your key code and compare it to the stored value in the ECU, your machine has the ability to assign an operational value of normal, rental or learning to any key programmed to it.
 
I would have the key looked at as well. No matter what the issue, you MUST have a known good "something" to go by. If there is any question as to the key, you need to find out if it is a "learner" key.
 
Thx guys...I'll get the key checked out...sounds like they will need the ski and the key???

The previous owner thinks I just need to blow it out...hmmm...I ran it for 30 mins or so full open and as I said it did spurt up a few times...

"I don't think I had the learner key. A lot of times when you first start the ski for the year you have to run them really hard to blow the carbon out. Very common."

I had the tank full all winter....with Stabil...I'll be keeping marine gas in it going forward...

uhm.....I've never...not a single time...have had to blow the carbon outa my ski after the winter. With a full tank of 91+ and a can of SeaFoam fresh plugs....mine runs like a raped ape the first time it hits the water.

You're down 20+mph....and what?...2500rpm?...If it started and ran smooth at lower rpms.....it ain't the gas.

Is your TB opening all the way?

Thx guys...I appreciate the assistance. I am not too mechanically inclined but could I be firing on 2 cylinders? Perhaps changing plugs would be a quick try before I take it to the shop...

A fresh set of plugs is an inexpensive solution to many probs.

You can do anything a shop can do with the right tools at home, provided the previous owner wasn't intentionally holding back on one of the keys for his next purchase and gave you a learner the first thing you need to look at are your TPS values. You'll wonder how you got along without it owning anything SeaDoo made after '03 check out the tech forums at CDP when you have time I think you will like what you see there, it takes turning your own wrench to save some $$$ to the next level.

No more worry about throwing your wallet into the dealer's coffer's and nothing beats having the ability to just hook up and fix the common stuff like a bad TPS.

Got her up to 60mph today...no wind, very calm...plenty fast for me....but what is next? Is 60 reasonable for a 2005 155?

Yeah...dreem-o-meter's about 5mph off on my ski at WOT.

If you want...just a thought...the glove deck lid for an '04 GTX Limited has an indention for a Garmin Map76.

Direct swap for oem lid. It's what I have.

#42 and related latches...

You can find all sorts of goodies in the classified as well....save a few$.

GPS will give you land speed. Also factor in currents, if you are trying to get an accurate top speed. Going with the current will obviously give you a faster speed on the GPS vs going against the current.

If you are dealing with a current while using a GPS, run up and down stream. Add both speeds together and divide by two.
