OK...so I came across this 2004 Seadoo Sportster and when I opened up the "hood"...this is what I saw. Unreal!! I bought it but it's raining so can't really get into it now. Take a look at pics and tell me what "you see." I have zero info on boat. There is a clutch pedal under dash and a shifter on floor....CRAZY!

kinda cool....i guess.

thanks in advance.

Whoa, is that a bmw engine? I see the logo. Dude you gotta post better/more pics.

I have no idea what it is.....can you imagine my reaction when I opened the rear hatch and saw that. I can tell it's a motorcycle motor...size, year?? who knows. Craaaazzzy Once I get it home and cleaned up I will take photos and check for serial numbers ect.....

Whoa, that's pretty unique! I might've bought it too if it can actually move the boat well. My one concern is that motor might not be designed to handle the constant heavy load of pushing a boat through the water without overheating or wearing out quickly, kinda more demanding then pushing a motorcycle down the road..

Definitely need more pics, please! :)

Neat , but the pump would only allow , so much.
I am sure there is a point where no further advantage can be gained.

Video of that running please, that might actually be the coolest jerked over mod ever stuffed in an old Doo bilge. Love the 12V disconnect switch/key where the original DESS post was, that thing might have enough grunt to pull a real increase in prop pitch.

Any idea what's on there now for a pump and impeller?

Just saw this for the first time, I did see it on Iboats. More info and pics please. How did you end up buying it without knowing what engine it had? Do you mind if I ask what you paid for it?

I had considered doing this before I started my 4tec upgrade on my challenger. Please post more pics/info on this. Very curious how it all works. It's it geared down any?

I saw it sitting around and inquired about it.....guy says....I'll take $200 for it. I was like OK...be back tomorrow with cash and a trailer. Took me a while to find a trailer but when I dropped off the cash. The guy who had it says....."now wait, I want you to look at this before you but it. The guy who put this together did something to the motor. We lifted up the hatch and......well here we are. $200 for ski. $320 in new trailer $130 in parts for boat...and counting!!~~

Geared down...I can't say.....there are 2 massive chain drives with gears...one is larger than the other.

I was buying it thinking it probably didn't even have a motor!!

I am in the process right now of rebuilding pump and drive line. Long story...see other posts. Im going to reach out to skat trak and explain my situation and perhaps they can advise me on an impeller

I read that yesterday, looks like you're on the right track there alignment and having enough tension on the boot and seal when the stainless carrier is locked in front of the shaft groove are the two biggest factors in getting that to seal properly.

I'd buy a handful of pump seal rings and see if anyone has spare impellers you could borrow, I have all sorts of loaners for the 140's but no so much on the 155's like you need. You'll almost have to try a few pitch combinations to see where the sweet spot is on the taller gear ratio to move enough volume of water through the pump, unlikely anyone could even venture a guess without some test notes of pitch angles, gear and rpms achieved over the entire range of operation.

I want to see this baby in action, you should post a Youtube video or something :) Looks super complex in there. I take it the storage bin is history? Is that a tranny shift lever beside the driver? Do gears work on boats??

Once I fix the cavitation issue a video will be posted for sure! Not to complex...after I stared at if for about 3 days 3 hours each day with aprox case of Bud Light...I figured it all out. Yes! Thats a short throw shifter for the gears..1 down, 5 up (1 forward, 5 back on boat) Gears are not meant to be on a boat....this is a total custom install by someone with way to much time and money on his hands......I love it so far (I think) Any locals....come on by and check it out..

Any updates? Get that cavitation squared away? I put an early 90s shaft seal on my challenger to ensure no cavitation. Worked well, just remember to grease itnow n then.

I ended up selling it for $2400 and bought some hunting supplies. Would have kept it in my "younger" days for sure. thanks for checking in.

Dang, I would have really liked to hear more about it. I'm frankenstining my own challenger, putting a 4tec in there. The Challenger lives up to its name :)
