Ok long story short. I have one of these in my garage with a broke timing chain. It has 96 hours and I have been told that since it is an interference motor that it is a lost cause. Meaning that it will cost more to repair than it is worth. Can someone please confirm? It was recommended to part out and sell but whos got time for that?
I asked them to rebuild the supercharger as well and the impeller. The impeller was actually apart from the bearing when I removed the cage.

Is it possible that something got in the impeller and jammed it causing the parts to come apart. Would this "jam" cause the chain to break?

Lastly what is the value of this ski "as is" with the trailer?

Thank you!!

What's an "interference" motor?

Can you further explain..."the impeller was actually apart from the bearing when I removed the cage."...please?

What usually happens......washer's fail...break...enter the motor...pieces become lodged....everywhere...busted timing chains aren't unheard of. Bearing cages fail...enter the motor....sc wheel touches down send a cloud of aluminum dust into the intake an on to motor. Cage parts...bearings...any other part which leaves the sc shaft enters motors...get's past the screens and lodges everywhere. Timing chain failures as a result are not uncommon.

All this is very possible depending on how long the motor was run after sc failure.

Ok so what I have been told is because of this type of motor when the chain breaks there is nothing to stop the pistons and valves to slam together. Which would case a lot of damage so it's better to get a long block instead of repair old motor.

The impeller screws on to the bearing shaft and there is a special tool to take those apart. Mine was not the case and they were already apart. Impeller was chewed up along with the wear ring.

Don't know if the s/c failed but know it is close to 100 hours and there was problems with those washers. Have been told that could cause chain to break.

Are you saying the motor is fine? It was locked up but I got it free. I assume the chain was jammed somewhere.

I'm not doubting the engine is toast. Just listed a possible cause...since you mentioned an sc rebuild. Was curious as to why...since that would be pointless if the rest of the motor's gone.

Okay...the prop and pump are screwed too?...yeah....unless I had access to donor parts I'd list it for whole or parts...the trailer...a single?...if in decent shape will go for >$500 easy.

Who told you or how do you know the motor's locked up?

I know peeps who've gone the full rebuild themselves vs buying a new one from sbt. That ski ain't cost you nuthin...so maybe 2-3K will get you runnin down the river...is it worth it to you?

It is a single trailer in excellent shape. No interest in spending that kind of money on a 10 year old ski. When the ski turned off the motor would not crank. It attempted to but would not turn over. After continually attemping to start and turning the drive shaft by hand I got it to move. It no spins freely. I saw that the chain is gone. In the bottom of the oil pan I am sure. Package deal $1000-1500?
