It's Friday, 12:00 noon. We leave for Table Rock on Wednesday, 12:00 noon to ride skis all weekend with 100+ others people from all over the country. So, what should I do between now and then, besides finishing the engine build and getting it installed in my RXX?

I've decided to take my wife's ski... a perfectly running, dead solid reliable, 2004 GTI LE RFI completely apart, and swap it for a carb 951. Nothing too hot, just a stock 951 with pro-k's and impeller and VTS from an RX at this point in time. Nobody ever said I was smart.
Photos will be happening.
For now, the ski in question.

Got started on it around 7:30 tonight. Made a front mount and got the ski stripped down. First thing in the morning, it'll get a powerwash, since it's ultra disgusting. Then, start figuring things out!received_877191679327156.jpegreceived_660633234412050.jpegreceived_2391159201158858.jpeg

Update as of 1pm today. Have spent about two - three hours on it cleaning, removing the glove box, installing the tank, repairing the f1 fuse (although it worked, might as well get ahead of it).
Next up im running up to my storage facility to get a different oil tank, fuel filler hose, a Solas Concord and a few odds and ends. Good times.

So, i got back to the shop around 6 and got busy.
Added the vts, and using 98 xpl exhaust hose and waterbox. I removed the foam from the rfi pipe and put it on the 98 box, my wife would rather the ski be somewhat quiet, so that'll help... since i eliminated those stupid exhaust baffles. That is a lot of work. 20190803_225725.jpg
Tomorrow I'll be dropping the engine, getting the wiring sorted and fuel lines run. Fun times ahead.

Well, today was kind of a bust. I only got about an hour and a half to do anything, so i dropped in the engine and exhaust to check fitment and start putting wires and hoses where they need to land.

Lots and lots of room here20190804_141054.jpg

Update
Wiring took forever, but it's all done. As are most of the miscellaneous items (vts added to handlebar, choke cable, hoses, fuel selector, etc..)
I was really stoked to have hooked up a battery and have all electrical working as they should first shot. Don't know why, but i was. I want to shorten up the rear harness to the mpem wires, I'll live with it for now.
I plan on this being done in another 5 hours or so..

So Tuesday night, I got all of the odds and ends buttoned up. Ran it on the hose yesterday morning, and all is good. Immediately threw it on the trailer and got busy on the rxx install.. didn't even get time to wash it before leaving for Table Rock, so we're going to go do that right now. So, sorry, no pic.

Update:
Smoke show 2019 day one, ski ranflawlessly all day. The vts makes a huge difference, like, monster.. and the 15-20 Solas works well. No gps numbers, but it is running very well.

And smoke show day two, ran it hard all day. Did a gps run, only hitting 56 mph. And only turning 6650rpm. I need to play a bit, I'm at a half turn on the highs with prok jetting and it's a bit rich, playing safe for the weekend. Overall, this swap did exactly what i wanted it to do. Give my wife a great cruising ski with enough power to play.
Please pardon the lack of pics on this post, here's one with the GTI, RXX, and Nick Grillo ‍lol

I've just done a little piddling here and there with the ski. Leaned the highs a little bit, picked up some missing rpm's. Have not yet gps'd it, but it's another 200 rpm or so..
I swapped the traction mats out for some blacktip black on charcoal tread pattern, they look sweet. Also had my cousin who owns an embroidery shop make me a new handlebar pad cover out of the same material I used to recover the seat. Other than that, we're just putting as many hours on them as we can until the water turns cold.

Nothing to update here, since it's been.. winter. But in the next week or two I'll be getting it out of storage.
But I think the next change for this (my wonderful wife's) ski is that I'll probably put last years engine out of the RXX (stage III Wossner 1017 Fullbore ported top end) into this ski. I will also add a white pipe, buckshot for some compression, reeds, spacers, dumping the AP's and switching to a dynafly 13/19. I will also be redoing the conversion mount.
She's also getting pretty antsy for a new JT seat cover that I promised her a year ago..
