2004 GTX 4 tec SC using oil

Just bought a 2004 GTX 4 tec SC about a month ago. PO never mentioned that the ski used oil. I went to take off this morning and got an oil warning. Ski has 225 hours on it. Anything I should look for? Other than using oil it runs fine.

Thanks for the help,

Jeff

When you say oil warning, what are you referring to? It may just be low on oil - are you having to add oil regularly? are you getting blue smoke? It could also
be the start of your oil sensors going as well.

I have the same machine and have just added some oil (very little) for the first time in a year. You should have the oil level at half way on the dipstick (after
you make sure the engine is completely level as well).

I think you are right. I got a low oil warning. I added some oil and it seems to be fine. I did not notice any blue smoke. I just got the ski about a month ago. I will keep an eye on the oil and see how often I have to add it.

Thanks for the reply.

I think I found the issue. image.jpg. There was oil over the back of the engine compartment. I think one of the o rings is damaged. Is this a normal thing to have happen?

very common issue with the oil filter caps. The one that broke can get damaged when you pry the cap off. There should be a total of 3 o-rings in/on the cap itself. Probably a good idea to just replace all of them. I always have a spare set of oil cap o-rings on hand for oil changes, so get 2 sets.

which is why you don't pry the caps off with a screwdriver not to mention that it chews up your aluminum surfaces. 99%of the time you can get the cap off with just your fingers, use 3 fingers and pull on one side and then the other, it will come but may take several pulls back and forth. the only ones that don't come off are the original plastic caps from the 02-03 era and the heavily corroded saltwater ones.

Jeff, with that many hours of operation and you new to owning it... when was the last time the supercharger was rebuilt and are you sure of it? You also would have the sodium filled exhaust valves (if they were never updated by PO) which are prone to corrosion cracks and breaking. Be sure to look into these issues!
