Just bought a 2003 utopia 185 and trying to get my gauges to work properly. Worked on the depth finder today, it will not power up at all, the 12v is connected to the black and blue wire connecting to the gauge light of the speedometer but I can't get a 12v reading. Tried every combination key on with light switches on. Anyone has a wiring diagram for this model. Thx

Took the speedometer gauge out and the depth finder is jumped on the 12v of the light on the speedometer. I get 12v reading on the gauge bat. connection but not the light. All the fuses are good, also my nav lights don't work. Is their any other fuses?? Does the Nav light switch turn on the lights in the gauges also??

Ok, I tapped the depth finder on the purple wire to get 12v, it works. Now to figure out why i'm not getting 12v on the blue wire which is the navigation and dash lights.

Thanks Tony, Checked those fuses all good, I was able to lift the dash board a bit to check the switch and when you guy's say the wires are short!!! they are really short that the wires are so tight that the plug barely stays on the switch and it was unplugged, now I'm getting power. Last is the speedometer, it turns on and goes to zero but will not move from there, I wonder if the problem is the sensor?? the wheel turns properly, not sure what else to check before I open it.

Good. Glad you found it.

The speedo could be bad. it's common on the older boats. But, you can check the output of the sender with a meter. It's basically a magnetic switch.

Tested the speedometer this morning, when I turn the key on it goes to 10 mph and stays there even when I turn the paddle wheel. I check the voltage from ground and the signal wire and i get 11v, no change when i turn the paddle wheel by 1/4 increments.

Did that and the needle doesn't move it stays on 10mph, is their an adjustment to reset to zero, I see two rubber plugs in the back??

Got the speedometer working, the wire at the sensor in the back was nicked and broken. Also I loosened all the nuts in the back of the speedometer and moved the bolts around and then re-tighten them to get a good contact.
Thanks for the help Tony.

Is it normal for the fuel gauge to show full when the key is off and the proper level when you key on??

When the power is off... they will go wherever. As long as it works when powered up... don't worry about it.

Hi I am having the same problem with my speedometer. I had confirmed that the sensor was bad so I purchased a new one. My problem is that the new sensor came with three wires instead of the two wire (original). I connected the wires based on the color but I still have a tan/blue color wire which I left off. Based on my connection I checked with volt meter and I get a reading but when I power on and spin the wheel sensor my speedometer does not move. Any ideas?

Not sure what the third wire is used for but mine had two issues; the wire to the paddle wheel was broken and also like mentioned on other post bad contact inside the speedometer. Loosen all the nuts in the back of the speedometer and move the bolt around in and out, the contact inside is made when the bolt is tightened and sits on the contact inside the speedometer so with time you might get corrosion and a bad contact. When you re-tithe the nuts make sure the bolt is sitting properly inside the speedometer. Let me know if you any other questions. Mike

You are getting two diff. voltages high-low when testing the paddle wheel??

I checked the sensor and the wires for a reading using OHMS. I never checked the voltage when power is on and the paddle wheel is spun. Thank you for your suggestion earlier. I will check the speedo screw/nuts later.

I did everything I can. I checked the reading on my multimeter by powering on and hooked my meter to the sensor wires and I get a stable reading and a diff reading when spinning the paddle wheel. I also took the speedometer and checked all wires from fuse box for continuity and all good as well. I also checked the the back of the speedometer for continuity and all checked out good. Removed all bolts and retighten them and checked speedometer and still a no go. My speedometer stays stuck at 5mph. Hey do you know what the numbers and the arrow in back of the speedometer is for? Also do you know of a replacement speedometer I'm just thinking of buying a new one (aftermarket). Thank you
