Two separate issues dont know if they are related.
First: Overheating after running at 3000-3500 rpm for 4-5 minutes while in water. very hot exhaust.
Where should I start if i would like to eliminate blockage and narrow down the cause.
Second: I ran the boat on flush, it idles fine, water temp coming from exhaust normal (obviously because the flush is forcing water through the system) BUT a strange event occurred. The sound changed and went way up, almost as if something had slip or lost it's resistance and was free to spin without any opposing force. The kill was plulled, problem inspected and boat restarted fine with normal idle sound. This had happened a few times last season while under load. The best example I can site is when in water, under load, doing a hole shot. Upon attempt to accelerate from idle to 3/4 full the boats rpms would rise but the boat's speed would not. Upon backing down back to idle and accelerating at a normal to reduce rate a few times the boat's rpms and speed climbed accordingly. This issue I had under load in water appears to be the one i experienced during flush.
The boat is maintained, winterized and has had a new throttle cable installed last season, new impeller and wear ring two seasons ago, new starter, new oil, filter, gaskets, new plugs, good gasoline. It is winterized every year and never run for more then needed to flush the system or inspect an issue.
In sum, the boat exhaust is over heating causing an alarm AND the boat to slip out of gear for lack of a better way to explain the accelerating issue.
