coming back in from the gulf, there was a gradual decrease in engine performance that escalated all the way to being bogged down so bad, the engine would just rev with no power when i lifted the throttle, and wasn't going any faster than 5-10 mph, and struggling. this has happened to me 3 times before, and each time it was because of something (such as the tow rope for our tow-able or the anchor line) getting sucked up and wrapping around the shaft. After examination of the intake, it was free and clear, so I opened the engine compartment and it was FULL of water. It wasn't an active leak, because we weren't taking on water when the engine was off. The bilge was definitely not pumping any of the water out either. I slowly tug tugged it all the way back to the marina and put it on the trailer, and removed the drain plugs to drain the water. where did the water get into my engine and why? this seems pretty serious and I hope its not :(

It could be a leak from the exhaust, adaptor plate or the flush hose. You need to run the engine again in the water and see where it's coming from. Try it on the hose first in the drive way and see if it will leak that way.
