2003 GTX Supercharged Question

I just purchased a 2003 GTX Supercharged and I have a quick question. I have been doing some reading and saw that the superchargers usually need to be rebuilt pretty early. It has 60 hours so its probably up in the air. How can I tell if its functioning properly? I'm taking it out so what signs can I look for? I saw someone suggest holding the supercharger line to see if there is pressure. I took a look but I'm not sure where the supercharger is mounted / the line is running. Is it easy to get to?

There a few ways. Easier way is to ride it and see what rpm you are turning at full throttle. You should see about 8000 give or take a little depending on outside temp. Another way, remove the intake hose going to the supercharger and try to spin the sc by hand. If you can easily spin it, it's on its way out or has already checked out. It should still spin by hand but it shouldn't be easy.

It really isn't about it functioning properly so much as it is about what washers it has. If it still has he ceramic washers, even if it is operating perfectly, it needs rebuilt. At the very least, the ceramic washer need replaced. But,,, if it has not been rebuilt regardless of hours, it needs rebuilt now. Two reasons, aged bearings and ceramic washers.

If you are not familiar with the issue of ceramic washers, let us know and we will go into more details.

I took it out today and was hitting around 7500rpm, maybe a bit over. It really felt like it was working. Is the 500 in the give or take range?

I read some about the ceramic washers. I thought I read that the 2003 did not have them from the factory. Can anyone verify this?

03 did not have ceramics so unless someone switched in a different supercharger no worries there.

7650 is the rev limiter on the 185hp models so it sounds like you're getting max rpm.

Supercharger should be rebuilt ASAP due to age.

I was thinking it was 02 that didn't as they are an entirely different design. I could be off a year though.

Seadoo started with supercharged models in 2003 this first year clutch is different than preceding set ups as it did not use slip washers. In 2004 Seadoo changed the clutch set up and started using the infamous ceramic washers.

03 had metal slip washers but they didn't last long depending on use. It sounds like your sc is working properly but should still be completely rebuilt. The big concern are the bearings due to age where the plastic spacers get brittle and break then the bearing fails and will do damage to the sc and lock the motor up.
