I have a 2003 GTI LE and I am at a loss right now. When I put the key in, it instantly tries to crank a few times then stops, I then push the start and it clicks over like it might be a dead battery. I used a jump box to try it with same results, however if i jump the starter relay, it cranks like its a new battery. I can push the start switch while jumping the starter relay and it will start right up, but if I disconnect the jump box, then the engine will stop. I have already put a new CDI module and a new starter relay. Im going to try a new battery but if I can jump the starter relay and it cranks just fine, but will act like its a dead battery with the start switch, is there any other components I should look at?

First off never us a jump box as you can fry the MPEM. You might have fired the new MPEM or if it is a cheap one they can be junk out of the box.

Second, are you sure you connected the wires correctly to the new starter relay. IF they are switched you will not get power to the MPEM and switches unless you jump the solenoid.

I'm just musing here but inserting the key and the ski trying to crank for a few seconds kinda matches exactly what the fuel pump does. It energizes the fuel pump for about 2 seconds.

As Miki Said..... never use a jump box and also make sure your batter is in good condition. Check your wiring. Good luck and enjoy the journey.
