2002 Seadoo RXDI

Hi all. I am picking up a 2002 RXDI tomorrow that I acquired l. I know the guy that I am getting it from, but he is moving and wanted me to pick it up. He says it wont start, but he ran it earlier in the year and it has good compression. What would be the basics on what to look for on the 951 as I have never worked on one. Thanks in advance

First take a deep breath....
The 951 DI is an awesome engine when it is running correct but a pain in the butt when it isn't.

1. Make sure you have a really strong, good new battery. The DI loves a good battery. No jump starting or boosting.
2. Clean fresh fuel, 87 octane.
3. Check compression with a good tester, not Harbor Freight. Perfect compression is 130-140 at 110 it's done.

Report back after that.

Heres the new rig. Went and picked it up today and am going to be testing everything out tomorrow. Drained all the old fuel and oil tonight.

Awesome looking RXdi! Same year and all as mine. When you get it dialed in you will love it. The RX is great ski.

Yeah...I WISH I had that much room in MY GARAGE to actually pull a ski on a trailer into !!!!

Didn’t get to checking everything today as I just got back from work and my battery is in another ski in my backyard and im beat but I appreciate all the feedback! Ill keep an update once I get to it tomorrow or Saturday.

Make yourself a boggy and slide the Doo on it. Easy. Can be done with 4x4s and coaster wheels.

I had a 97 GTX, an 01 GTX and now the 02 rxdi and the rx is defiantly my favorite. More nimble and better handling ski imo. One thing I did notice tho is the rx doesnt ride near as well as the gtxs in rougher water.

After you install the battery, install the lanyard and listen for the fuel pump to come on. If you don’t hear the pump start up then the pump is probably bad.
If you hear the pump it is probably good and is in need of servicing.

I would check compression as mentioned.
Check for spark. When checking spark hold throttle wide open. Wide open puts the ski in drown mode and shuts off the fuel pump.
If draining the oil out make sure you change the oil filter and above all else pre prime the system.

Update on the ski: Runs great and great compression on both cylinders. New plugs and some minor service and it is humming. Previous owner broke the wheel on the speedometer, so I need to replace that as well as the seat cover. Any suggestions?

I guess this would be my last question. I will be buying the seadoo oil that is recommended for the rxdi but would like to ride more today. What oil can I run in the meantime and is there a display to show the remaining oil in the tank so I dont run out. Thanks for all the help too!

Owner's manual says "If Bombardier injection oil is not available, API TC high quality ashless two-stroke injection oil may be used."

DO NOT mix two different brands of oil.
Open the hood and check the oil tank, the light usually comes on pretty early.

The previous owner had Mercury 2 stroke synthetic blend in the front compartment. Any thoughts on this type of fuel? Ive heard people say that quiksilver’s premium oil is good for these.

If that is what he was using it is the wrong oil and not good for your DI ski.
You should get it out of there immediately and flush the system and use only API-TC rated full synthetic oil.

What's up with the outboard oil in these Seadoos. I find A lot of them with the blue stuff. Is it the color people like? Probably the color and the price.

I think most people have no clue and for some reason can't read the sticker on the ski that says "Use only API-TC full synthetic oil". That and being cheap and lazy. You spend thousands on a ski but complain that the oil is too expensive, not to mention the gas, just the way it goes.

In all seriousness, I think most people just don't know and buy whatever is on the shelf.

I picked up the seadoo oil from a local store. Some people just don’t care and its disappointing. Nice stuff for people who’d rather pay thousands to get something fixed rather than run the right stuff

Good job Oldschool, just make sure you drain and rinse the tank, replace the inline oil filter and bleed the oil pump before you install the new oil.
