My new pick up today, 2002 Seadoo RX carb model. Engine is seized (the guy believes his daughter's boyfriend flipped it, flipped it back over the wrong way, and once back to the dock just put it on the dock and kept quiet about it..so water sat in it for a few weeks).
Here are some pics! Going to focus on cleaning it up for now, then will seek out an engine for it. Not bad for free!

Also, what is this Rossier head worth? I think I'm going to set it back to a stock machine ideally. tempImagepaKw3m.jpg

Here is what I found today while disassembling more of the engine. Stock bore at the moment. Not sure when I'll get this thing rebuilt. I'm not in a rush so will probably wait till winter to send it off.

Some more things:
  1. Has ProK flame arrestors. I assume I should go back to the stock setup here?
  2. Carbon fiber reeds. One is a little damaged on the edge. Is OEM best for a stock jetting setup?
  3. Rossier head has corrosion on the domes, so I'm definitely in the market for a stock head if anybody has one in good shape.
  4. Since the flame arrestors, reeds, and head were all aftermarket - I assume it's jetted for the upgrades. Is there anything else I should check for in terms of aftermarket before setting the carb back to stock settings? (Again - this won't be done anytime soon..this is a long-term project for me).

1. For a stock ski that is going to be ridden by most people you are better off with the stock airbox because it is critical to keep water out of a 951.
2. I like stock reeds for longevity as a lot of the dual stage reeds can lose tension fairly quickly. Even OEM are carbon fiber if I remember correctly.
3. Stock head will get you back to reasonable compression numbers.
4. It should be rejetted. If going back to stock you can use the stock jetting as long as it has the accelerator pump still.

From what I can tell it has Carbon Tech 206SS reeds. Probably would be okay to run them, but I'm trying not to give this engine any reason to not run flawlessly so I'll go ahead and replace them.

Sold the aftermarket head and flame arrestors so now I’m officially positive in this project…for now.

Engine bay had a bit of oil in it (likely from when he pulled the engine). Cleaned up nicely but still have work to do in there.

Starter was aftermarket, however the original starter was in the storage box up front - but I can’t seem to find a 951 starter rebuild kit anywhere?

Shopping for a head and original air box assembly if anyone has one. Worst case I’ll contact Westside as I get closer to the engine build.

You could get the brushes from Seadoo but it would be $150 and a brand new starter from them is $230.

This one on Amazon does say it will work on the 951 starter.Starter Kit

Well opened up the starter today and the armature is in rough shape, looks like it was overheated several times. So going to add a used OEM starter to the list of stuff to buy.

Was shopping for covers this weekend. I was going to bite the bullet on a Poppy cover but ran across Covermate Pro Contour-Fit covers on Overton’s, picked one up for $54 which is right at half off the normal price. Yellow and black to match the RX. They seem to have decent reviews on the 2 stroke facebook page so we will see. Just a storage cover to keep the sun off it. Will upgrade to a Poppy cover down the road once this RX proves itself worthy.

Put the engine back in the ski last night for storage purposes. It’s going to be fun figuring out where all the various hoses go when I drop a good engine in. I’m nervous about the condition of the crank and counterbalance since I have no clue how long water sat in the engine. Clearly both will be replaced but what constitutes a good core?

You'll probably be OK on the core and you got plenty of help on the connection end from the forum. Lots of experience here. I'll take some pictures when I go back in with another one in the next week or so. I'm putting an oil pump back on this one.

Hard to tell in the pic, but noticed today that the mating surface is pretty dented. Going to go out on a limb and assume this is not usable? Looks like it was dropped.

Better pic, man this is bumming me out bad. Glad I have a buyer coming for my 96 GTI I guess..frustrating though. Might throw the ski up online just to see what someone would pay for it. Have a lead on two 97 XP's and a 99 GTX RFI that are calling my name...

Yep, it’ll be a total rebuild if I proceed with it. Won’t cut any corners at all.
Might disassemble the rest of the engine this week and see how the cases look before making a decision. Really don’t have time for it right now unfortunately but guess my spare time can be looking for deals on parts.
