hi, I have a 2002 gtx 4 tec limited , non turbo. It runs great up to 4200 rpm then starts to miss on 1 cyl . @ 5000rpm it drops 1 cyl completly off. Any help would sure be sweet.

Have you tried replacing the spark plugs? If not, do so. (3) NGK DCPR8E

Be sure to unscrew and discard the metal tips on the plugs before you install them or you coils won't go back over the plugs correctly.

2002 4-tec sea-doo , wont rev past 5000 rpm

Yes i did change plugs and thanks for the info .. This unit was smashed and sunk.
I : changed oil several times to clean out.. clear now
cleaned fuel system , soaked injectors and fired right up, idle was perfect, sounded real good..
then i fixed the smashed hull, then test drove on lake, good up to 4300 rpm then starts to miss, will only rev to 5000 . checked resistance on coils ..good.
sprayed connections from computor ,coils, etc with wd40... didnt help.
just tryed new plugs again and checked fuel flow to injector bar , looked good.

help!!!!! ha,ha.

This unit was smashed and sunk ... help!!!!! ha,ha.

Ouchie! You've got a project on your hands there friend. You might have to take it to a .... (Gasp!).... Dealership, pay them to hook up to the MPEM and get some diagnostic information from their computer. You don't have to pay them to fix the problem if it's something you think you can handle, but you may need them to tell you what the problem is. I've no better ideas. Sorry. :-(

Smashed and sunk !

Hi micheal, Well all it took was a phone call to the right dude. i am feelin a little simple here, I had no idea there was a learner key for these things! du! ..lol. set to only rev to 5000 rpm, well off to get a real key set up. It even says l key when it starts up ! Im thinkin i will get over 25 mph now! thanks !

Huh! So that's what they do when you max out the throttle using a learner key? It drops a cylinder from the firing order? So it's basically just changing the rpm at which the rev limiter kicks in then. I did not know that, I figured it would limit the throttle position... but then again, throttle is controlled directly by a cable so I guess changing the rev limiting rpm is the only thing it can really do to limit top speed. Interesting... thanks for the info! I'm sure it'll help somebody else someday. :-)
