2002 Gtx DI won't run in water but runs on the lift just fine

Check /replace oil lines, filter, oil pump operation, carbs for sure, hard to tell if it was running lean, or if a piston ring broke and mangled up the top end.

For the break in, i always set my engine rich (and 50:1 premix WITH oil injection) That way the top end gets a good bath of oil and runs cooler. Heat is what kills a top end, or lack of lubrication. Once the majority of the break in is done, I tune the carbs spot on and have it running like a scalded cat.

I will check all of it out, but it does not have carbs it is fuel injected

Sorry, missed that part (duh). But yes, check out the oil pump for sure, Take your injectors to be cleaned, or buy new. Clean fuel baffle/pump, all lines. And scratch the thing of putting premix in. It will mess up the injectors. with fuel injection, you'll have to adjust the oil pump to burn slightly more oil. Thats my opinion. Lots of oil on break in. Smokes like hell, but you know it will last. Others may say just run it, i like taking the extra step, maybe 5$ more in oil, but so worth it.

The $349 price from Full Bore seems great since they know what they are doing and take the worry out. You will have to pay shipping for your cylinders, but it still may be worth it. The $349 assumes they just have to bore and not re-sleeve, which would be extra.

I noticed they will also trim your RAVE "blades" for $20 if you send them along. In addition, if you send your blown piston and spark plug, they will assess what the problem was.

I have a 2000 GTX DI with 239hrs on it that is running great as of now, but I figure a rebuild is coming up in my near future... What am I looking at for a rebuild? ($).

Sorry for the thread-jack, hoping everything goes well with your rebuild.

Ok I have sent the cylinders , pistons off to " Full Bore " for boring and matching up with new pistons and other items. I ordered the higher end pro x racing parts as I have been told this is better quality, we shall see ! I sent them the pistons and plugs because the claim they can give me a good idea as to what caused the engine failure. So for now I am just waiting for the new parts .

For the top end rebuild only as "mtnandy" is doing, he's paying $400 plus shipping to get both cylinders re-bored with new performance pistons to match. Of course, he's doing all the labor to disassemble and reassemble.

If you can't do that labor, a dealership would probably want to just replace the motor with a rebuild (at least $1500), then charge for removal and install (probably another $600?).

Yep that's correct, $419 for the kit and rave mod pluses another $30 to ship the items. My engine only has about 145 hrs on it so I hope I can get buy with just the new top end. It is a gamble for sure but since it is a 2002 model I just can't see dumping more money than this into it. If this top end repair does not work I will sell it as is and move on. It is in great shape and always kept in the garage and used in fresh water only. I even just put new tires on the trailer last fall.

This is my Fullbore ProX kit I got last year for my GTX top end rebuild. I've been meaning to post some pics, I'll have to do a thread on this........

So did you get it back together and running ? How many hours on you motor and what kind of damage did you find when you pulled the cylinders off initially ?

I posted a thread on this today.

Here:

I got it all back together, and it's still running great. I think it's got around 15 hours on it now? It had a total of 234 hours on the machine, so I'm taking a bigger risk than you in doing just the top end rebuild. It needed a new fuel pump also, which I did the aftermarket one off EBay. There's a good thread here on Seadooforum.com on the DI fuel pump replacement.
