Hoping someone can help, was out on the weekend, things were running well for a couple of hours, jumping and town etc. Then all of a sudden I lost power, and it would not rev over about 4000 rpm and took its time to get there. Tuned it off, and back on, it did it again then seemed to clear it's throat and I was away only to have it happen again about a minute later. This went on for about 5 10 minutes so I decided to call it a day. Parked it on the beach for 45 then went to start it to put it on the trailer. Took 10 minutes of trying to fire only after I had removed the seat. Took it home and changed the plugs it fired up beautifully and bounced off the limiter. Turned it off, connected the hose to flush started it and the gremlin was back. Called the shop and they think it may be some crap in the fuel filter. Any one got any ideas?

Someone else asked the same thing this morning.

Check 2 things...

1) Compression
2) Fuel pressure

Get those numbers, and let us know what you have.

Thanks Dr Honda,
Compression should be fine, had it checked 4 months ago and it had only dropped about 1.5% over the 9 years. Cant imagine that would have changed in 4 outings. How do I check fuel pressure with out taking it to the shop? I do know that when I plug in the key the fuel pump does it's thing and pressurises the system for a second or so. I can here that perfectly.......

It doesn't mater if it's working or not... it's if it's making enough pressure. The pumps normally don't fail totally. A shop may be easier... but you can do it yourself... but you have to make a "T" adapter to go in the line, right after the pump.

Hi Dr Honda,
Just wanted to let you know I could not work it out and took it to the shop, they had to replace the redresseur assembly and the recifier ass as well. There was a corroded wire in the loom causing poor and intermitent current as well.

Took it out for a spin two weeks ago and she ran beutifully all day, when cleaning and flushing a quick squirt on the throttle and a few bits of back resin type plastic flew out. I grabbed a torch and had a look at the impeller and there was a chunk in there and thought I must have sucked it up. Reached in and pulled it out but on close inspection it looks similar to the material the inside of the jet is made of. Took it out last week end and now it won't lauch out of the hole properly. Once it gets up to speed it seems ok but from stand still its almost like it's sucking air (like when you go through white wash). Any ideas?

Sounds like you may need a new "wear ring" in the jet pump. Do the manual described clearance measurements between the impeller and the plastic wear ring. However, it may be the right clearance most places except where a "chunk" came out. Redresseur is French for rectifier.

Thanks DooWacka, you are spot on, it was the wear ring, have had it replaced and it is now a bullet!!!
