Hello first time posting on here having an electric fuel pump problem .....I think .....2002 Gtx DI disconnected the fuel pump wires (two red wires) Hooked multi meter to ground and to one wire in connector on supply side but am seeing only about 7 volts other lead 0 volts.
Dess is plugged in beeps but nothing from fuel pump no sound at all from fuel pump, dead. Engine cranks but will not start...shot of either gets it running but just for a moment.
All fuses good ....checked with multimeter
What voltage should I be seeing 12 volts on the plug ?
Do not think it is the MPEM ...but who knows .
Where should I be looking for issues ..
Thanks in advance

One of the biggest issues with DI ski's is the fuel pressure. At idle, I think it need to be something like 97psi. An aftermarket cheap pump simply does not hold up even if you buy it new.

Though I do not know officially, I do think you should have 12 volts at the feed wire. I have not heard of any of the pump systems having a decreased voltage to feed the pump.

7 volts unloaded won't cut it, you have no power to FP. Could try running 12 volts temporarily direct from battery to hear FP run, must be fused though. I guess there must be a corroded connection in the harness or FP fuse socket itself.

But according to the elec schematic the FP wires aren't red, they're black with pink(-) and purple with pink(+) ???

I wouldn't use ether, make up some pre-mix oil+gasoline for that kind of testing as ether is too harsh and can cause damage besides ether has no lube in it.

Good job troubleshooting.

Thank you so much for the response ...you are 100% correct the wires are pink and black and purple and pink.. The 6 volts i am getting is on the purple pink ..0 volts on the pink/black when checked to ground ....did a continuity check on the pink/black down to the number 2 connector and the line rung out fine. Checked the 15 amp fuse and it is good ..... Appears that I am not getting the additional 6 volts out of the MPEM (guessing here)... Any additional suggestions ? Really trying to avoid going to the local dealer who has a horrible reputation.

Oh on connector 1 on the 26 pin I get 12 volts

Sorry I didn't see your response earlier. I agree about the dealers, I've seen too many poor examples....

So I think you meant you get 12 volts while back-probing on connector 4 pin 26, that would be the FP positive power (purple with pink stripe) wire, correct?

Another perhaps easier place to measure but further internal of the MPEM is the top corner of the FP fuse itself, you'll notice an exposed test point on the fuse body.

Honestly I have a suspicion the fuel pump is likely malfunctioning so at this point I would disconnect the connector from the FP at the tank and make a jumper wire setup with a fuse and apply battery power directly to the +/- terminals of the fuel pump connector. By applying 12V power directly, the fuel pump should run and if it doesn't that indicates the pump is malfunctioning.

Be careful to make sure of connecting these connections in the correct polarity and wires, don't make a mistake as that might damage the fuel level sensor.

There is another thread on RFI model jetski troubleshooting that has info on replacement fuel pumps, this pump used is a rather unique design and it's important to get a replacement that will work without sucking too much power (already the system is near capacity). Also while in there (assuming your FP test indicates defective FP), there are two sock filters you will want to replace as the originals are loaded with dirt by now and the embedded abrasives will damage a new replacement pump.

Fortunately, the sock filters are available at most autoparts stores and the FP is available as well, the p/N's are in that thread link which I will hunt up and post here if your FP fails the test.

Tell me what you think.....
