I have a 2002 gti with 717 cc motor..Sat for 8 years but it had spark so I rebuilt the carb by following the thread in this forum. It runs and starts great on the hose but only after that first start of the day. I haven't been able to start that first time without squirting gas in the carb. Then it will start right up and rev with no hesitation. I haven't let it sit more than a few minutes between that first start and the next so I don't know how it will do on the water. I am kind of stumped.
I just saw this got posted in the performance forum. Don't know how to move it

You have a fuel system issue.

Replace the fuel selector and fuel strainer o-ring.

Verify pop-off and leak down on the carb.

Did you use genuine Mikuni parts and new needle and seat? Did you install the wrong spring?

Hi thanks for your reply. Pop off was right and leak down was right for your thread. It has a new gas filter and O-ring. So I guess I’ll try the shut off and maybe I could run a gas line direct from a can to try that?

I took the fuel line from the tank off the fuel filter and blew back through towards the tank with compressed air. That increased the flow to the filter and solved the starting issue. Thanks
