2002 GFX RFI Starting Troubles

Hey guys!

I recently inherited a 2002 GTX RFI sea-doo. Upon bringing it home I jumped it off my boat's battery and heard it crank over. I ran out to buy a battery, and now I just get a loud CLUNK from the starter ( also hear the solenoid working and a wine from the fuse box up front) which I assume is shot. I pulled the pump and impeller off, which was rusted on and still nothing. I cannot rotate the driveshaft by hand in the hull so I assume this ski is locked up. I looked in the bore with a scope and it looks okay. I am unsure where to go from here so any help is appreciated as i am totally new to sea doos. Thanks! IMG-2272.jpgIMG-2278.jpg
 
If you pulled the pump and still can’t turn the engine over by hand then something inside the engine is locked up.

If the starter clunked then the electrical system is fine.

I would pull the starter and make sure it’s not stuck. Then the head to see anything obvious. Then the pipe. I would pull the PTO flywheel before pulling the engine from the hull then finally the engine and start tearing it down until you find the issue.
 
Word of warning. Starter is a real bitch to pull on those rfi's. Before pulling it, try hitting the start button with your hand on the starter. If you feel it clunk. but no turning, just pull the engine.
 
Thank you. I assume i need to pull the exhaust outlet off the engine to reach it . Are there any good references to follow? Looks like a pain

yea, you have to pull the pipe to get to the allen bolt underneath.. which, pipe needs to come off if you pull the engine anyways. But getting to the allen head is the real bitch with the engine in the ski.
I'd recommend downloading the manual and starting from there
 
Sheeeee.... that is about one of the easiest pipes to pull. LOL You'll need to pull the throttle body and move it out of the way. get (4) 6mm nuts and put them on the bottom of the long bolts that hold the throttle body in position. Using those nuts will hold everything together for you while you are moving things around. Finger tight is good. DON'T freakin drop a nut in the rotary valve intake cover. Tape that hole up for sure. :D Be careful and good luck.
