2001 XP Bogs down at takeoff

I have a 2001 XP I bought last year and had some trouble with the initial takeoff on the ski. Since my last post about it, I have replaced every gray fuel line with the back fuel lines from the local auto parts house. While changing the fuel lines I found what appeared to be putty inside some of the lines very odd. I also put a new acc pump, as the old one would no loner hold pressure. I tore the carbs down except for removing the check valve cover to access the pilot and main jets. I am still having the problem with the bogging down at the start. I did notice on the PTO carb that the hole that the fuel from the fuel pump actually went through was a pin hole( Curious if this is supposed to be this way or not). As I was looking at the throttle response diagram in the shop manual, it shows the pilot jet being the primary source for fuel for the first half of the throttle valve opening up. I didn't remove the check valve because it was very difficult to loosen the screws holding in on and I did not want to have to buy a new carb. The ski runs great if you pull the choke and get the rpms up just enough its only on the initial dead stop to full throttle. Any ideas?

If you replaced the gray fuel lines you need to complete the job and clean the jets inside. That gunk in the fuel lines is inside the carbs as well. They need a good cleaning. That pin hole as such allows the diaphragm to move back and forth. No fuel is on the outside of the diaphragm under the cover.

Well I cleaned everything except taking the check valve off to access the pilot and main jet. I put a lot of pressure on the screws but they did not budge I was scared I was going to break something so I didn't press any farther, wanted to get some advice from someone with more experience with this type of carb system.

Pick up a can of PB blaster from like Auto Zone, or Walmarts ( about $3.00). Spray the screws and let it soak for a while. The screws should free up and come out to get to the jets...that's where you problem is.

Ok I am going to take the carbs back off and get the jets out and give them a good cleaning. Thanks so much for the help. I love this forum!

It sounds like yours is doing the same thing mine was. I JUST got through figuring out what was wrong. The accel pump was fine, it passed the pressure test. BUT, it was only squirting fuel into one carb. I replaced ALL gray lines to and from the carbs and on the accel circuit (Minding the restrictor in the accel supply line). Still only one barrel... Checked the plastic T, it was clear. Finally pulled the brass elbows off the carbs and checked them. One was plugged. Sprayed carb cleaner and dug around with a welding tip cleaner and freed up a small piece of black rubber that was clogging it. It's all good now...

Good luck

It is possible too that the line is plugged like his problem too. Using a mirror, with the engine off and air box off, push the throttle and see if it squirts fuel into the throats of the carbs. You might have a compound problem with the old bad fuel lines and fuel.
