I bought a 2001 Seadoo Challenger 1800 last Saturday. After 10 minutes in the water the engine shut off. We never took it about half throttle because it was a little choppy. I took off the flywheel cover only to see the starter broke loose and the mounts that hold it on are cracked. I am assuming this is really not good. Does it look like I would have to get an all new engine?

Thank you and any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Well... that's not a happy engine.

The starter didn't break loose... the hole I'm looking at was caused by a rod that broke, and came though the engine block.

Try to look into the hole, and see if the connecting rod is still in there.

Sorry, and I know the feeling. Here's my islandia engine.

You can see the rod under the fuel pump.

The bad part of my experience was I bought the boat that day and was in the water 10 minutes before it happened. Now I can't get in touch with him. Probably my fault for a lack of due diligence. Thanks for your help and sorry that happened to you too!
