My XP with the 951 broke a piston and appears to have destroyed the motor. Compression was getting low but everything else was working well. I am debating about selling to scrapper, parting out, or attempt to fix. I would welcome opinions. There is a 2002 GTX-DI in my area with a trashed hull from an accident but the owner reports the engine was strong. Does anyone know if that motor would switch into my carburetor set up? Thanks for the help and advice.

Not worth the hassle. The di motors are troublesome to work on and diagnose. Rebuild your current motor.

Let me please clarify. It is my understanding that the 2002 GTX-DI has a 951. Can I remove the "DI" components and put my carb on that block and set it up like a typical 2000 XP with a 951?

Mwat65 - Have you owned a DI in the past, or have one now?

Rcgop - sorry, as mikidymac posted it will not work.

You can not just toss the DI stuff and go to a carb on a DI engine. You can just switch to a DI on that particular ski if you get a few correct XP pieces and have the patience of a saint. However, mah god, not worth it. I've rebuilt 13 DI skis this year, and have grown to absolutely hate working on them.
Either fix it or I may buy, I'm just down the road in Blue Springs
