So I redid the carbs and rand 15 thanks through it since ran awsome. Rebuilt the pump with new prop the other night. Now I go out and fill it up and put it in the water and it's not really missing but it serges. The tach will sit there and bounce ...any ideas where to start . I did check compression and did new plugs.

Thanks
Scott

Unplug the red wire to the rectifier and see if it clears up. You can’t run it long that way as it’s not charging.

His might have the integrated regulator.

Is it bouncing in the water or on the trailer? On the trailer is normal so don’t rev it up on the trailer unless you want a runaway.

You can disconnect the 3 yellow wires from the engine plug and that has the same effect as removing the red wire as they are talking about. This is to eliminate the possible AC voltage from messing with the computer if there was a failure of the rectifier.

Need a better description of what its doing.

Not sure how to post a video . I can text it to you. The reps will bounce say from 3000 to 35oo...both plugs look good..the the mag cover it looks like it has 4 yellow wires...very new to the 951

3 plain yellow. The other one had a tracer.
But the regulator thing only really effects the top end. the surging sounds more like fuel delivery.

Well tonight I had a quick min. I check the volts and at 4k its charging 13.29v so that should rule out the rectifier...next I think I'll start with the carbs...

Check for a twisted crank or bent rod. The way it sounds is that either one cylinder isn't firing untill later or a bent rod is making it sound like it is being dragged along until the higher rpms.

I'll check that as well...Monday is my hole day off

Well I just took the carbs off. The filters in side were trashed with crap. I put it all back together and I think I still have the same problem I need to put it in the water......I know with this only being a carb model would it help if I hooked the candoo up to it. On a carb model would it give Me any more info....I dont want to waste a vin on it if it wont...

Another ? For the Rectifier. Can I still unplug a red wire somewhere to check that? Or can you not do that since it's in the computer?

No the rectifier issue is with 96 model 787's, very rare for other skis to have that issue.

I wouldn't use the Candoo HIN if you don't need to change timing or program keys.

Shaving pickup? the pickup for spark signal in the mag cover? If so I could certainly see that causing an electrical miss. I have wire wheeled them without issues.

Yep I was just thinking and thought about the mag cover where the pick up is...

Just wanted to update this. Found bad Rectifier along with a rave that was leaking and that fixed it

How did you find those ?
Un hooked the 3 yellow wires. Rode ski and no more crazy rpms. Would only get 6k rpms tho. Check raves by pushing them down and plugging the hole with my finger. They should stay down but one would not. So rebuilt it and all good now
