I have a 2000 GTX RFI that runs like a dream (good dream). It starts within a few seconds every morning or whenever it has been turned off for a few hours. If I take a spill and the engine is killed, or if I turn it off to change riders, or if I turn it off to put gas in, it will not start. It will crank over and act like it is starting but it will just continue to crank without starting. NO aftermarket parts, all OEM. Problem has gotten progressively worse since first noticed last year. I have gone thru several full new tanks of gas and new XPS oil. Now I have to sit for an hour if I want to restart. I have read of this problem but never read a solution. Any ideas? Thanks in advance.

Have you tried holding the throttle approx. 3/4 open and seen if it will start?
I've also seen alot of the same complaint on skis' with fuel injection here on the forum but haven't seen any " I found the problem" posts yet. I"m starting to wonder if it doesn't have something to do with ethanol in the fuel. You're describing a flooded engine but there's no logical reason for the flooding.

Tried fully open throttle

Yes I've tried but no better luck. I need someone who has actaully solved the problem. The ski runs flawlessly at all other times, no hiccups, no loading up, so I think it is a RFI specific problem.

I've tried most times at closed throttle and multiple times at 100% throttle and several times with a few pumps of throttle...is there some reason you think 3/4 throttle will work? Why not 3/8, 1/2, 5/8 throttle, etc?

I tried a new lanyard ( $50) without success. Then I tried a new starter relay ($100) without success, finally I replaced the starter ( $500) and the problem is solved.

Hi guys. New to the site. Have the same issue with my 2000 Challenger. Past 2 days the boat starts right up within 2 seconds. I rip around the lake for half hour or so and turned it off and it would not start up again. Turns over but no start. Almost a few times but in the end, nothing. Had to be towed back to the boat ramp. So cold start but when warm no start. Need some help guys! Getting frustrated and it's only the start to the season.

Really? A starter? Im having the same issue but I wouldnt think the starter would be the problem since it cranks over.... Hmm... I just had an issue with my starter locking up...

Yes I know this post is almost a year old.
