Hi all took the rfi out this weekend after i fixed the oil leak , put it in water and it started right up , would not rev past 5800 so i checked all the lines and the one that goes to the controller for the rave valves , a little box right above the spark plugs was off, put it back on and it revs to 6800 now, but my issue is that when i return to the dock it is very hard starting well putter and fire and hit 900 rpms then die quickly, kinda feels like its flooding by the sound of the motor ,, only way i can get it to start after this happens is to load it on the trailer then it fires right up ,,,, shut it off and put it back in water and it welll fire up ,, checked compression it is 145 on both sides ,, lots of spark too, any other suggestions as to what i can look at as this is getting frustrating ? thankyou

Hey Yada - Had a similar problem couple years ago at Buffalo Pound. Kept getting weeds in the grate and it restricted the turn rate when starting. Every thing is better at Douglas Park right now. Try and check your wear wing clearences. might be a little tight or or might be coming apart. Had that happen also, new wear ring, problem solved.

thanks fr the reply ,, are you talking about the wear ring by the impeller, it has no cavatation and hits 50 so not sure about that , as for weeds yes there is some but i checked a few times and it was clear also if i shut it off in center of lake sometmes it would go but most likely not,, have another doo out there and it starts just fine mind you that ones carbed

it could be flooding. It is possible that the injectors are leaking, and flooding the engine a little.

Since it's starting on the trailer... have you tried to hold the throttle open a little? That will help clear it out. OR... try removing the seat, and start it in the water. If you have a small exhaust leak... it will displace the O2 in the bilge.

Hi dr, yea i tried to hold the throttle open a little and a lot , same scenario. If the injectors were leaking why does it fire up sometimes? its weird. As for the seat no have not tried that but i did have the seat off a few times to see if there was any water coming in and it did the same thing. As i sit here thinking , i realize that if my sportster boat had given me the same grief i would probally have not bought these seadoo lol

Well... I don't recommend anyone buying a RFi or Di seadoo. When they run... they are great... but once they start having problems... then they are hard to diagnose, and they are expensive to fix.

OK... if the injectors are leaking... they can sometimes seal up. So they would give an intermittent problem. When they leak all the time... then it doesn't run. Also... on the Di... you have 107 psi fuel pressure static... so, a little leak is a big problem. When you put your lanyard on... and the pump cycles... you could be sending a lot of extra fuel into the engine.

If it was my ski... I would start with checking the injectors, to see if they are holding pressure. Since it's a "Direct Injection"... the injector tip is in the combustion chamber, and if they build carbon... the tips will become clogged.

so was talking to a few buds that work on DI skidoos , same concept , they suggested that maybe it was not turning over fast enough , i tested the battery it has 200 cranking amps and shows 211, so i took it out and when i returned to the dock i hooked up another battery (310 cranking amps) via boosting and it fired up six times in a row in the water. So i removed the 200 cranking amp battery and installed the fresh 310 amp one , took it for a spin and again no start just firing to 900 rpm then dieing , I do know know that after a few tries it floods as i have to hold the pedal to the metal so to speak out of the water on the trailer to get it to fire up (This after a nostart in the water and after a few tries in the water too) so could it be the starter is dragging just enough to make it flood ? I phoned a seadoo tech shop here in sask and they said they never heard of a DI or Rfi doing that before , if it runs it runs,, if it doesnt it doesnt, well when it runs it runs great on the lake ,, just this starting issue in the water , as far as checking the injectors , i hope to but may need some guidence on that retrospect, i am just trying to rule out the simple things first. As far as the wear ring being to tight as suggested above is this possible ? and how does one check that ? thankyou
