2000 GTX gas tank removal

So, I'm going to pull the gas tank out for a flush and hull clean and wondered if the front hatch has to come off. It would be nice to not have to, but I'm guessing it has to come off. Anything else I need to be careful with?

that's easy. it's just the large plug into the MPEM and 4 bolts in hull...

although... why bother? just drain the tank in place and put in fresh fuel.

I've never pulled a tank to clean it or to clean under it, too dam much work. On my really grimy ones I have put a little gas in there and used a rag on the end of a flexible grabber and sloshed it around a bit, then sucked it up with a hand pump, maybe dumped another 1/4 gallon and repeated if it was bad.

As far as cleaning under/around the tank I just squirt a boat load of super-clean around, let it sit a minute or two and give it a quick blast with the pressure washer, if no pressure washer then a hit it with a toilet brush and rinse with the hose works just fine.

It will come out without removing the hatch, it is tricky though, now as to why remove the tank, it depends on what is in it, I have had several that had the brown sticky blob stuck to the bottom of the tank, it took much less time to remove the tank and clean it properly than to di46 around with it inside the hull with a makeshift mop. just my experience, yours may vary.

I'd remove the hatch just to prevent damage, but yea... again... WHY are we removing the tank? lol

I was thinking that taking the tank out would make it easier to clean the oil, sludge, and fermenting leaves mess underneath, but after everyone's suggestions, I'm going to leave it in. The gas is pretty bad, but not green goo bad. Thanks for the replies. I'm sure you all saved me from a massive frustration drinking binge and many fiberglass scrapes on my hands and arms!

lol, the di46 brought back some 5 year old memories...

I actually found one leftover di46 sticker in my decal bag last weekend... I need to find the right place to put it.
