Hi there, I’ve been going through my new to me GSX while the engine is out, and I cleaned out the old nasty gas in the tank this evening. During the process, I realized that the fuel level sender has been removed. The pump/baffle assembly was missing the float, arm, and the sender. The plug that goes into the sender was just hanging there not plugged into anything. I don’t want to buy a whole new assembly, but can’t seem to find just the sender. Anyone know either where to find one or what the ohm range is on these senders? Maybe I can adapt a generic float/sender if the ohm numbers are close enough. Thanks for any help anyone can provide.

I was able to track down a float and sender, but unfortunately the wiper on the rheostat was worn causing erratic readings when I tried to read the ohms. Here’s a pic of the rheostat taken apart and a close up of the worn wiper.

When I applied my probes directly to the board, I got consistent readings: about 6 ohms at full and about 90 ohms at empty. That told me the wiper was causing my problems. I applied a little solder to the wiper tip.

When I put it all back together, I got consistent readings at all levels. So as you can see, these senders show about 6 ohms at full and 90 ohms at empty.

Interestingly, I found this in the service manual indicating what ohm readings on the gauge connector translate into gauge readings. I couldnt get the sender to show 0 ohms, but maybe the MPEM does some averaging with the sender readings. These readings were pretty close to what I got from the sender.

Hopefully this helps someone in the future looking to check and/or fix their failing sender. Sorry for the sideways pictures.
