upon turning the main power switch in the engine compartment my boat tries to start even without the keys in it. I was told the solenoid needs to be replaced. Does anyone know the part number for the solenoid. I also need a new ignition switch if anyone knows the part number. Thanx

Be sure that the solenoid is bad! Remove all of the very small wires from solenoid, and leaving the 2 large wires. If it still tries to start then yes the solenoid is bad if not then the solenoid is good. I have read that some bad mpem's can cause this type of problem. I am not saying that this is the case but lets start with testing the solenoid first.

Both?

Are you sure you need both? Either the ignition switch or the solenoid could cause the problem you are referring to. Unfortunately the ignition switch is part of the main harness and is fairly expensive from Sea-Doo. See part number one here. http://partsfinder.onlinemicrofiche.com/seadooforums/Seadoo_oem/Seadoo_JB.asp?Type=13&A=50&B=17

You can also get just the switch from Mercury for about 60 dollars, but you must cut and solder it to the existing harness. Mercury part number 88107A5. Which you get will be decided by your skill level.

The solenoid will have to come from a Mercury dealer, about 45 dollars. Part number 817109A2.

thanx everybody, I'm pretty sure the solenoid is bad, and the ignition switch looks pretty beat up so I figured I'd replace it while I was working on the boat. Also if anybody could tell me a good replacement impeller for my boat that would be great. It's a 2000 challenger 2000 with the mercury m2 efi.
