1999 XP Limited rebuild questions

I am working on a 1999 XP Limited with the 951 engine and I have a few questions.
1. I got a gasket set and it has 3 base gasket that goes below the cylinders, I read that you need to use the same thickness that came out of it. The new gaskets all have 8 dots? I can't find the old gasket at this time. Does anyone know what one (s) I should use? What thickness was the original?
2. The oil intakes on the carb adapters are on the bottom. These are the small lines that come from the oil pump. Should they enter from the top? These adapters can be put on both ways I think? These are the adapters that go on after the reed valves. I looked in the manuals and can't see a picture or a description.
3. What kind of oil should I put in the balance shaft cavity? The manual says just 30W oil. Should it be synthetic? What weight?

Thanks,
Dale

1. Who's gasket set did you buy? You should use the same amount of holes.

2. I'd have to look at it or at least see a picture. Look on eBay and compare pics.

3. If it says 30w, then it's just straight 30 weight oil. Not 10-30. I don't think there are any bearings inside that cavity so just conventional oil is fine, unless it specifically says syn. Pennzoil makes HD30 weight.

The gasket kit came from Bay Area Powersports. They have 3 base gaskets in the kit and all three have 8 holes. I found my old one and it was a 5 hole gasket. From what I read the bigger the # of hole the thicker the gasket. Right? So if I go with an 8 hole gasket it will just decrease the compression some and maybe make the engine last a little longer?
I have thought about the carb adapters and they go with the oil ports at the bottom. The carbs just don't fit on quite as nice that way, will have to loosen everything up and make some adjustments.
Thanks for the oil advice. I had just heard everyone talking about synthetic oil and thought maybe in there would be good too.
Thanks,
Dale

OK, I have a couple questions with the hoses that go on the Exhaust on this 951 Limited. The 3 small hoses, where do they go?
1. The one at the PTO side of the exhaust tube up top?
2. The one on the inside curve at the mag side down by the mounting bolt?
3. The last one on the exhaust tube?
Also, The pulse line to the carb comes from the tube under the carbs on the case that points towards the Mag side, the other tube that comes out of the case there goes where?
I have read and reread the manual and it is not very clear where any of these lines go. Too many different motor sizes in the 1999 shop manual to give good information on just the 951. I loved the 1994 manual.
Thanks,
Dale

Racer, those help alot. Just a few questions, # 13 in the first drawing is the pisser right? And # 39 in the second picture is the rave valve control, right? Where did these drawings come from, They are better than what is in the 1999 manual.
Thanks,
Dale

I assume you meant 31? as 13 is just hose

Yes, 39 controls the RAVE's

Those explosion drawings are straight from BRP, they're the best out there.

Click on the "View parts catalogs" button. Then at the top of the next screen use the drop down menu to go to Seadoo Watercraft, then the year, model, model again if more than one and then what ever sub-section you need. If you click on a part ID # on the microfiche it will take you directly to the lower screen and show you the OEM part# and description.
