Hey guys,

I’m a bit stumped here. I’ve a 99’ GTX Limited. Brand new battery, went down to the water today to make sure she’d start and run fine. I pulled the choke, and started turning her over, and she was turning over fine, all of a sudden I hear one short beep, and now I don’t have any display, and she doesn’t beep when I plug in the key or turn over when I hold the ignition button. I checked all of the fuses on the MPEM. I checked the fuse in the plug in the box back by the battery. I don’t see any grounds or anything hanging free. I pulled the battery back out, threw it on the charger just in case, and installed it again later, same thing. It’s acting like I’m not getting any power at all.

Check your DESS post. Also, try pushing the start button without installing the key and see if the display comes on. Check the solenoid and the starer. Good Luck !

So....we could use a little more info.....original owner, etc....what's been done, not been done to the ski?

There is NO description in the DESS system documentation for 1 SHORT beep.

So, with battery re-installed, NO KEY installed......does the ski wake up if you press the Start/Stop button?

1 Beep is it doesn't recognize the lanyard.
The DESS description states -> One LONG beep COULD mean it doesn't recognize the lanyard. HOW could that be if the ski was "turning over" and trying to start? I guess I just assumed that the wrong lanyard would not even allow the mpem to "turn the engine over".
SO, the bigger question is this......DOES the MPEM EVER LOSE it's memory? If so -> HOW? The service manual states "the memory of the MPEM is permanent". I would assume that this means it's an EEprom...since it can be programmed and wiped out (on purpose through BUDS).....but does it ever get wiped out some other way?

I think it is up to the person hearing it for long or short beep.
Last summer we had a 1997 XP in our group that would start and idle fine with 2 beeps, as soon as you gave it gas you would get 1 beep and it would die and give 1 beep if you touched the start stop switch. Remove and reinstall the lanyard and 2 beeps and it would start and repeat. We replaced the DESS post and it has been fine ever since.

That's interesting and good info....thanks for sharing. These ski's will forever keep us guessing won't they!!!!
