So i rebuilt carbs all except messing with the pop off stuff basically new filters diaphrams o rings cleaned jets etc. I have it set at 3000 rpm out of water a she revs like an animal so i take her to the lake and get ready to unleash the fury i think she has built up and I am cruising at a whopping 10 mph at first the idle was rough but smoothed right out then I noticed the lsa were at 1 turn out so i bumped them to 1 1/4 and now it will backfire every 2 mins or so. The question is can this all be adjustment or should i revisit ripping carbs out. The whole motor was just rebuilt by prev owner but when he went to start it no spark......the white terminal on top coil was corroted

It's hard to get backfires with the carb being messed up. Normally it takes something like the rotary valve being out of time, or the ignition is messed up.

I would start by verifying the rotary timing since you've never heard the engine run.

98 xp limited wont go over 10mpoh

Ive heard the motor run Ive been driving it the problem first originated when I took it out for the first time after discovering the corrosion problem was it would take off fine but after 4 min wot the ski fquit so I immediately thought fuel issue did research replaced all grey lines cleaned baffle rebuilt carbs withexception of new spring figured if aint broke dont fix it cause I didnt have pop off tester put all back together revs nice out of water idles great in water except every now and again gives alittle burp like backfire

OK... I miss read your post. I thought you bought it not running.

OK... if it was running, and then quit with an ignition issue... I would start there. Double check the wires, and connections. Like I was saying above... it's normally a timing issue more than fuel related to get a back fire.

Also... I'm assuming you have an XP Limited?? Never heard of an Xr.

One more thought. If it's giving a pop once in a while, and not revving up... it could be that the pulse coil is broken from it's mount.

You may want to pop off the mag cover, and check. OR... check to make sure it's not covered in fine metal filings from the starter teeth wearing.

It wasnt running when I bought it i checked spark and the coil contacts dirty then took it to water when wot the it quit ...no fuel did the change of the fuel lines rebuilt carbs and now I am getting a popping during idle in the water. I also read all over the forum about specs of the lsa and it says 1-1 1/4 depending who posts. I ordered manual and it says 2 turns out .....could this be my whole problem cause before the carb rebuild and it falling on its face I never heard the poping before
