I have been dealing with this problem for a very long time. My 98 xp 951 has a very strange starter issue. When i try to start it the starter will sometimes engage perfectly but other times it will not start at all and then when i finally get it to roll the starter kicks in and out quickly. Now the motor does eventually start and sometimes starts immediately. The problem is that i have already sacrificed a bendix gear due to this problem and can afford to do another in. I am very handy with this ski as i have already had it apart several times. I have spliced in a new switch and that was not the issue. i have checked all grounds as best as i can. i have found that the hot wire to the solenoid from the mpem has a fluctuating current which causes the solenoid to disengage while rolling over and than engage again quickly. Any help i greatly appreciated and i already fear it is the mpem due to the internal relay but was hoping somebody could shed some light on other possible issues.

ive repaired a few skis with the same problem. check the female connectors at the mpem harness which corresponds to the starting circuit. be careful when working on the harness as it can easily be damaged.
