It's been a few months since I've posted but I've been trying to gather knowledge on my Seadoo in time for the season.

I purchased a 1998 Seadoo GTX Limited 951. 314 hours but was rebuilt approx. 14 hours ago says the previous owner. It sat for 2 years before I purchased it Oct 2015 and I took it for a quick ride before buying it. I stored it in a heated garage where I added stabil and fogged the motor. This motor has grey tempo lines which I plan to change in a few weeks. I poked around and replaced a few misc hoses, clamps, wires that weren't in the best shape and recharged the battery.

I went to St. Onge recreation in Barrie ON as they were highly recommended. I purchased a 2-stroke oil change kit with 1gal Synthetic BRP oil, jet pump oil, inline oil filter and cone o-ring. I feel comfortable doing this job myself except the oil filter. It is in a difficult spot and I need to bleed air from the lines? Tips here are much appreciated.

Anything else I should replace or do before getting it out on the water this weekend? Is the fuel filter serviceable? When I open the seat I get a strong smell of gas, is this normal?

Any help is appreciated. Thanks

I will not be much help but I have questions.
First, what about the gas, I know you added stabil but how old is it? Old gas can ruin your engine.
Also i would suggest looking at the spark plugs before you drive. Then after 5 minutes of driving (keep the throttle below half) check the spark plugs again. I am suggesting a cautious start for a new to you machine.

Now the question, how cold is lake Simcoe? Not sure if you go there but I may be soon.

Thanks for the reply.

When I took the seadoo out with the previous owner I used the fuel that was already in it, I'm not certain of it's condition or when he put it in. The low fuel light was on so he may have added just enough for my ride. After I purchased it I put 10L of premium (no ethanol) in with Stabil. When I bring it out this season I intended to add another 10L to the existing fuel for a better mix and burn the tank before adding a full tank. I don't want to completely fill it yet in case I encounter issues and the tank needs to sit again.

You've confirmed my thoughts, my plan was to take it very easy on the machine by keeping the speeds low and running it up and down the coast to work it in/get the bugs out/check for issues. The previous owner changed the plugs for my "test drive" which I still have in there when I fogged the motor.

I am going to Simcoe today so I will find out the temperature. I will likely bring it to Simcoe in July but my first few runs will be on Sparrow lake at my cottage.

Good luck with the oil filter... it's under the pipe. on a GTX it's near impossible to get to without removing the pipe, but you can do it... you'll remove the front bin and glove box.

Hmm... Sounds like adding some more hose on my DI rebuild might be needed... Then I can remote it somewhere "easier" to get to.

Sounds good.
Have you considered trying to premix the gas in the tank. Trying for maybe 50:1 or 100:1
I am not sure it is a good idea to do this but it is what I would do.
Hopefully others can comment on this suggestion.

I've never opened a DI, but if it's like the carb.. You can't and don't want to do that. The oil pump is gravity fed. It's not possible to relocate.

I would not be relocating it above the tank or anything, just a little more hose to be able to move it easier.

On another note, I assembled my crankcase using threebond. Can you put too much on it? I let it sit from friday, and when I put the pistons on tonight, I noticed some sealant on the sides of the pieces that the rods connect to. Should I be concerned, and redo, or is it ok?

Water in Wasaga is warming up.

Update

I had my seadoo on Sunday for the first time since it's test drive.

It fired up first try and ran rough which was expected. I let it idle and putt around the bay w/o throttle for 5 minutes. I checked the fuel and oil levels and ensured all was fine.. it was. I started it up again and took it out for 10 minutes, mild throttle up to 3000rpm.. checked fluids again.. all looked fine. I started it a third time and rode it for 20 minutes between 2-4000rpm... it ran fine and all looked fine.

The steering alignment is out slightly as is turns right when the handle is pointing forward. The motor sounds okay but the exhaust pops and crackles until 4000rpm where it smooths out. I am not sure if this is a 2 stroke thing as I've only driven 4 stroke before or something more important to be looking into.

Any help and tips would be appreciated again.
