There should be some wires that you will have to jump that come out of the stator, I think they are yellow but could be any color, and they are under the stator itself. I think its measured in ohm and that's what you set your multimeter too. But I'm not sure what the measurements should be for your year or model, which is why a manual would come in handy. You might also find that the wires are corroded or maybe even have broken off, which is why you are having problems. If you can figure out which wire is pos and neg then you should be able to then test the resistance on the stator. A higher or lower resistance than the designated range (manual, etc) then it will probably have to be replaced. I hope this helps.
