1998 180 Seadoo Challenger Engine Troubles

Hey guys, I'm having two problems with our Seadoo Challenger. It has Twin 110HP Rotex 780's and both are giving me problems.

The first problem is one of them runs rough, almost like a knocking noise but not quite, anywhere below 1500 RPM. Above that it smooths right out.

Today we were out in the boat, going 50 MPH, and all of a sudden one engine slowed right down. The other one was still running fine. The throttle for that engine did nothing. It wouldn't go above idle. After we shut it off we could not get it running again. It will crank try to start, and then stop. No idea what's wrong with it.

Any help on either problems, especially the second one, would be appreciated.

Note: Both problems are on separate engines. The engine running rough does not affect anything.

The low RPM knock is normal. It's coming from the pump.

THe other engine doesn't sound happy. Check the compression. I'm thinking you lost a cyl.

I've thought of the proper term to describe the knocking. It's a rattle. The thing is the other motor doesn't do it.

Going to do a compression check tomorrow.

Finally got around to doing a compression check.

1 cylinder had 140 compression the spark plug in that one was a little wet, the other one was at 40.
