Hi all new to this forum...

Have acquired a 97 gsx in really really good shape. Bought from a friend. it was working fine until recently when it now won't go over 3500 rpm no matter what you do with the throttle. Idles fine. at 3500 rpms almost feels/sounds like its looking for more power but doesnt know where to find it, or something.

Carbs have been cleaned,
compression is at 160 both cylinders.
new spark plugs,
new rectifier,
new battery giving 12v
new/good gas.

Anyone have any solutions? i've seen these problems all over this forum but hopefully someone can point me in the next step after the rectifier replacement.

Check your stator. A simple test is to put a volt meter on the battery. Check it not running first and record your number then run it on the hose and check it . It should be between 13-14.5 volts I believe. Rev engine to 4000 rpms when testing. There are also tests in the manual for it. Also check and clean all plugs , connectors and grounds.

Did you install any new parts in the carbs? New fuel selector or strainer? Sounds like it might be starving for fuel.

Cleaning your carbs was probably not enough . See carb rebuild thread.
