1997 XP Storage Question

Hello,

I was wondering if the 1997 XP had more storage than just what is in the small top bin. My buddy has a 2003 XP DI and his has a small white tray that lays over the engine that allows him to store things under his hood. Did the 1997 XP have one of these? Or could I buy one for the 2003 XP and it fit over my engine? Or is there one of those for the rear compartment?

Thanks in advance!

Grant

Yours had it and needs it. Without it there will be s 1/4" gap in the hood and will let in a lot of water. The 97' one is unique and all newer ones will not fit because yours is the only year with the 787 all others had the 951.

Mine lets in like no water currently. Everytime I take it out, When I put it back on the trailer and I remove the drain plugs; there's almost no water coming out. There's still weather stripping around the hood. There's no tray on ebay. Do you happen to have a picture of one or know where I can get one?

I can tell you without it your ski will leak. Look in the side where the latches are. The tray has weatherstripping on the bottom then the hood weatherstripping seals to the tray.

They look the same as your friends but the molding for the pipe is on the other side because you have the 787 engine.

the 97 tray has the oil cap bump on the right side (white extinguisher) vs. the left on my 98 (red extinguisher), the 97 is also deeper so you get some extra storage. this is my first post so i hope the pics attach correctly.IMG_0842.JPGIMG_0843.JPG

Bringing this back to life. With my CF hood, it doesnt allow for the OEM storage tray without adjusting the post which from the manual dont appear to adjustable. I played around a bit with the post and found that you can add a washer in there from 2 to 3 and that gives me proper clearance for the storage tray BUT.....It got me thinking, does having the tray out allow my motor to breath better? Secondly in my CF hood it has the original 4 air intake channels but also a central ram air mod the I'd almost dead center. If i put the storage tray in, it negates this mod unless I cut a matching hole to the tray. Maybe I can post some pics to offer a visualization.

in the middle slight yo the right theres that air ram the builder put in. if I drop the tray in, then air just would fill the tray. Since install I've ran without the tray, but I'd like to have some storage and a place for the fire extinguisher. There is a little bucket that can fit on the top of the hood but that ram runs too tall on the other side for it, considering shaving it down so it can fit....thoughts?

Your engine will get plenty of air with just the stock openings. On the 951 XP's they even covered up the two front holes because they were taking on so much water from them. So the 951 that needs more air is fine with just the two back ones.

Hey guys, what can you use to clean out the stains that get on that storage bin? As in old and rusty bolts that leach into the plastic.

I'd try toilet bowl cleaner, test it out in a small section first, maybe some ajax or something similar. Never tried this so this is at your own risk.
