What is the main purpose of this system is it really needed?

This is an easy way to remove weeds and junk from the prop shaft area, if you go into shallow spots and take in long weeds you need to be towed out back to the trailer and remove the pump to clean the shaft on all the other boats - your opens and allows you to reach inside and cut away everything so you can motor out, sometimes when you get stuff wrapped up the motor will not even turn with pliers on the driveshaft. Do not defeat this time and money saving feature.
