When I got my XP a month ago it read about 135 PSI on both cylinders. I've put under 2 hours of run time on it due to having to replace the fuel/ vent system from the baffle pick up to the carbs, rebuild the carbs, and I recently found that there was no o-ring on the rotary valve (rest of the rotary valve was in spec). I was having trouble starting it but once I replaced carb/ fuel system it would start good on the trailer but would struggle to start in the water. I will be putting a new O-ring on this weekend so that means everything fuel, carb, intake will be fixed. Hopefully this helps my hard start problem.
Before I took the rotary valve off, I checked compression again and the PTO cylinder read 125 PSI and Mag side read 135. Will I gain any cylinder pressure back when I put the O-ring on the rotary valve?

If I will not gain pressure from fixing the rotary valve then I feel as if it needs a top-end rebuild. In either case I would like rebuild the top end during the off season or when I have time. Can anybody point me to where I can get a top-end kit? And, can I rebuild pistons with the engine in the machine?

How many hours on the ski and/or condition. On a higher hour ski it is better to do the crank and counter balancer also, not just a top end.

For an easy DIY top end send it to FullBore Online. Even if you buy your own pistons, rings and gaskets you still have to have someone experienced bore, hone and chamfer the cylinders and trim the RAVE valves.

Miki, the 97 XP's dont have any hour gauge so i have no clue about hours. Idk if the MPEM keeps track and if it can be pulled from there somehow.
As for the engine condition this post has about all the pictures I have for the engine.
1997 XP no beeps and no start

It is stored in the MPEM na needs a reader from the dealer or a CandooPro to read it.

I don't think so. I have seen people test compression with the carbs off and still get good numbers.
