Hi all,

first post here, long time reader...

I just picked up a 1997 XP, turns out the coupling between the engine PTO and centre thru fuel tank drive shaft is badly damaged, and was a cause of vibration, luckily I didn’t ride far and avoided more damage! Engine mounts are ok, on the coupler attached to the centre shaft, the little alignment shaft that keeps the 2 coupler ends aligned around the rubber snapped off, causing the damage...

my question:
the part number on my damaged flywheel is 270000216. On eBay there are aftermarket and used PTO couplers that look similar with the part number 290958096. Such as this one here:

https:// rover.ebay.com/rover/0/0/0?mpre=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.ebay.com.au%2Fulk%2Fitm%2F233535427165

https:// rover.ebay.com/rover/0/0/0?mpre=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.ebay.com.au%2Fulk%2Fitm%2F274102832438

Will these couplers work on my 787 1997 XP drive train??

What size chain or pipe wrench do I need to grip the flywheel to remove it from the engine?

Any help is greatly appreciated.
Cheers,
Jake

I would contact Nick at Westside Powersports Seadoo as you are going to need a new PTO, rubber couplers and driveshaft.

I’ve already got a new drive shaft and red rubber couplers, I’m just after the PTO coupler flywheel. Do you know whether the ones I linked would fit?

Thanks for the help

That’s sucks... because I bought the silver one. Looks like the same 4 lobed coupler, and in the description says for 1997 XP, I’ll just bite the bullet and get the white one too then sell whichever one I don’t use. Thanks again

I would wait until you get the silver one. Since it is aftermarket it might just be different than OEM and work but with the 4 bolts it looks more like the 951 ones.

That is probably the best option, cheers. Another question that no other thread seems to cover... When I put the key on the DESS post, there is no 2 beeps you apparantly should hear, the fuel gauge doesn’t work, but engine starts and runs and the VTS and speed gauge work... is this a cause for concern?

no concern, the beepers just die. Fuel gauge not working is very common, it is fixable by soldering the "F1 fuse" in the fuel pickup most the time. Search it a bit and there are write ups on it.

You should replace the beeper as it is also your overheating alarm. You can go aftermarket on the beepers or order the OEM ones directly from Floyd Bell for $17.95, Part Number SP-1136.

Cheers for the help guys, I’ll look into it! another 2 questions:

What do you think about the condition of these rave guillotines, that’s as clean as I could get them, the surface coating seems to have worn off in a few areas.

And is the impeller leading edge tip slightly overhanging the front of the wear ring like this normal for the stock 787 impeller? I’m used to the smaller engines where the impeller is further down the wear ring.

The impeller shouldn't be sticking out that far from what I have seen but I don't have experience with the SBT rings.
