1997 seadoo GTX isn’t starting and bogs under throttle when started.

My GTX has been rebuilt and so were the carbs. My rave valves were cleaned and the fuel lines and selector switch were replaced. Jet ski is hard to start and when started it will bog under wot and will get on plane if I ease into it, however if I go over 30mph, it will die. It did that this weekend and now it won’t start. Towed it a mile to the boat launch with a kayak!! I just can’t figure this out. It has also oil fouled 15 plugs.
 
Bruce, I rebuilt my carbs on the GTX (I have two) and didn't pay much attention to pop off. I soaked each one in solution blew them out and sprayed GumOut carb cleaner in the wholes, and blew them out with air again. I took the ski out and it ran bad from 2500 - 4500 RPM. I figured it was the extra oil mix I had 32:1 being a newly rebuilt engine. I got it almost broke in. Mikidymac (forum member and great resource) suggested I look at the 3 little holes in the top of the carb barrel. I paid extra attention to make sure they were clear. I also found the pop off pressure on one carb was WAY off and the tab bent too high. When I am in the engine building mode, my goal is to get it running so I skip the tuning steps sometime. Then I come back to the tuning. I am looking forward to getting the ski on the water to test it out. The ski screams above 5K RPM.

I think it would be good for your to pull the carbs and go over them meticulously. Also.... are the kits Genuine Mikuni? As many here will mention... aftermarket parts cause problems. Did you pull the jets in your carbs? All that needs to come out so you can clean them up properly. Post up when you begin your plan.

I don’t know if they were genuine mikuni, but before I get into the rebuilding, I want to check the low speed and high speed screws. Does my problem have anything to do with timing? I want to do the simple things first before I spend more money. Thanks.

If your timing is off it most likely won't start at all. It sounds like a carb issue
 
Ok, I will check for vacuum leaks and then the high speed and idle screws, if that doesn’t fix it, then I will rebuild the carbs with genuine Mikuni parts. I will report back. Thanks!!

How do I pressure test it? I also forgot to mention that it only bogs when in the water. If I hit a wave at 30 mph it will bounce off 7k rpm.
 
Gonna need hand pressure pump. I bought one off Ebay. It does pressure and vacuum. Also will need to clamp off the fuel lines in places. For instance, if you open the fuel valve the air will pump right into the fuel tank.
 
Well nvm, it turns out that is is blown up for the third time. This thing has screwed me over. I’m out over $1k now and many hours of labor Thanks for your help guys. I appreciate it. Idk if I should give it another go or not.
 
Please give more details of the "blow up". The only things that will cause this is lack of fuel = running lean, lack of oil or overheating. You have to fix what is causing them to blow up before installing a new engine or it will just do it again and again. They don't just blow up for no reason.
 
I know it is getting oil though because the rave valves were covered in oil.

It's more than the screws. On a stock ski they run perfect with stock screw settings. You have some other fuel issue.
 
Ok, but idk of the guys that rebuilt it put the screws at stock settings and my ski isn’t stock. It has a 1mm over bore.

Stop screwing around thinking it's just adjustments on the carbs, it's not. You need to get yourself a genuine Mikuni rebuild kit from osdparts.com . I have experienced first hand what other carb kits do and this certainly can be what you are experiencing. You need to replace every last thing in that carb with genuine parts, even the little clear plastic check valve flapper. You will immediately notice a difference.
 
Any more thoughts on the cause of the damage done to this piston ?? Other than not getting the proper amount of fuel?
 
That's certainly been proven again and again with two stroke race bikes. Often the fastest bike out there melts a piston. Ouch !! What some people don't realize about premix, not saying this failure is premix but.... with premix, when you close the throttle... you stop the oil also. They get hot quick. $hite melts. I don't think this issue is as critical on jet skis as they drop RPM quickly when the throttle is closed.
